:: The Open-Content Revolution? ::

People are so hyped up about open-source, ranting and raving as if the open-source movement has produced even one commercial product. (Shuddap! Don’t say LINUX, because the LINUX boxes you’re buying are produced by companies, not by open-source!). Oh yes, there’s Netscape. Well, Good luck with that. But we digress - Just when you thought you’d seen the last of ‘open-x’ so-called revolutions, here comes ‘Open-Content’. A new site called www.nupedia.com is upon us. The idea is to have an encyclopedia which is public domain, and regular people, like you and us (only smarter) are the ones which contribute the value.

How does it work? Well, anyone who considers himself an expert on something, or just has way to much free time can join the nupedia team of volunteers. Available positions are Editors, Writers or Peer reviewers. From what we’ve seen, they don’t have too many articles to date, and most subjects you search for turn out to be referrals to Wired, Encarta or whatever. So – Open content it is. Now – Let us all together say it slowly – r-e-v-e-n-u-e-s-?
