:: First Look :: Gnip What? ::

Local newspapers and Internet start-ups have something in common: Both bring to our attention apparently severe problems in our lives, we never realized we actually suffered from. The local magazines reveal scandals we couldn't care less about, and Internet start-ups let us in on the fact that our usage of the Net was terribly crippled, up until they found the perfect solution to the non-issue.

Another player in this "Your browsing will never be the same" arena is called "GNIP" and wants to teach us to stop following our instincts, but plan our browsing instead. "GNIP" allows you to enter a list of sites you would like to visit, checks these sites for traffic, and lists them sorted from the most available site to the most busy one, so that your browsing will be optimized.

Well, I couldn't find a better phrase to describe what I think of that idea than "Gnip it!". Correct, every new idea makes (sometimes far-fetched) assumptions, but those underlying "GNIP" require a magical shift in user-behavior (and common sense) that I personally find extremely questionable.

And, please - Get a graphics designer. The "Word Art" look has been so out of style for the last 5 years.
