I'm doomed and so are all of you here in the Wadi.

Doomed with no way to escape.

Doomed due to a mistake made almost a century ago by our grandparents.

They had a choice. They could have gone America, but they chose Palestine instead. They worked their ass here to build this country, to lay the foundations on which we build our new industry. And by doing so, they doomed us.

And why is that?

Because everyone here in the Wadi knows that an Israeli Start-Up company needs to establish its US presence fast. It needs an American PR firm, it needs an American Business Development team, it needs an American VP of Marketing, An American Executive VP of Investor Relations, and most of all it needs a CEO.

Not German, not English, not Japanese and not, God forbidden, Israeli. He has to be an American.

It's not Education, Personal abilities, Personal Track Record or any other attribute. It's nationality that counts.

So had our grandparents taken the route west we could have been. But now we can't, we are doomed. We can write the code, prepare the presentation, make the sale happen but we can't make it to the top. No way. We were just born in the wrong place.

And what hurts most is the fact that all this happened because our grandparents were motivated by wishful thinking, by a trend, by a buzzword.

Zionism.

Such a shame.
