The other night, as I was leaving work in the stuffed open-space, I stopped at an ATM to draw some cash. On the side of the
ATM panel, was a sticker - www.kusemek.com. This started me thinking (shuddap!) about Israeli domain names.I think it all started with Walla!, which for some obscure reason are
still the leading portal down here at the Wadi. Then you had achla.co.il, sababa.co.il, and the most annoying of them all - combina.cc. It's only natural that a site like
kusemek.com will come.
In the US it is custom that slang and/or explicit words are mainly associate with adult content domains. Thus, when someone
types www.fuck.com, they know beforehand what to expect. But here - Hey, what's a little profanity between us? Weren't we all in together in the Army? Is it a wonder that Israeli
users were banned from DalNet's IRC channels?
I guess it's only reasonable that people who grow up in a culture where you greet your best friends with a curse would put
so little thought into the names they choose for their domains. Oh, and by the way - the content on kusemek.com really matches the name, as far as maturity level goes (nice flash,
tough).
What can I say? Yalla, sababa.
