:: Headcount ::

Found this at FuckedCompany.com and wanted to share with you.

"Evite just laid off 47 people, or around 60% of staff. I always pictured Evite as like two programmers sitting in a basement somewhere or something."

Now I don't care about Evite nor do I care what it does. What I found interesting in this item is that it sounded familiar. 80 people or so do what 2 can do. Most of the Wadi companies I know are like that. And what I found more interesting is that I know why this happens.

You see, a lot of times, Founders and mainly Investors, don't actually know what is it that the company is developing. I mean, they know it's an optical switch that will be worth billions but they have no idea how light beams spread in vacuum. Or they know it's an application server, but have no idea whether it runs as a thread or as a process. As a matter of fact, in the bigger companies, even most employees are clueless.

So how do they know the company is doing fine?

They do a headcount.
A company with 70 employees must be better than one with 7.
Right?

Right!
For the Founders and Investors this is absolutely right.

You have more people under you.
You are a commander, a conqueror, the master of your domain.
You are the king of the castle.

And it's fun.
Fun. Fun. Fun.

And then it ends.
