Recently, everyone you know, knows someone who works for Comverse, and everyone you know who has an idea for a Start-Up, knows someone in Comverse working on the very same idea. It is as if everyone is working for Comverse on any idea anyone could think of.

Comverse has lots of internal Start-Ups. WAP things, SMS things, m-commerce things, broadband things, unified things. Everything you need while Polar Bear hunting in the Scandinavian Tundra.

And I, can't dig it. So though no big NASDAQ player, I'll take my chance on a little advice.

Think of this.

In text communication there is a very clear layering. There is more Non-Real-Time communication (e-mail) than Semi-Real-Time (Instant Messaging) than Real-Time (Chat). In voice it is still the other way around. There is more Real-Time communication (Phone) than Non-Real-Time (Voice Mail). This is abnormal, it will change, and someone is going to make tons of money on it.

It should be Comverse. Must be. But then again, maybe it won't.

They seem so focused on the Scandinavian Tundra I wonder if they forgot there are still lots of things to do with what they are good at - Voice Mail. How about easily Filing it, Quoting it, BCCing it and hell, even Printing it. What about an equivalent of an Instant Messenger. What about a Voice Box that can think.

Something like having voice messages from my mother come out last.

So focus.

My mother last.
