This weekend David, the founder of GoldNames,
gave a reviling interview in Maariv. I know, there
is usually nothing to read in Maariv, and you are all
wondering why am I reading it. Well, a few months back
they had this great offer for 60 NIS a month and I was
tempted. I am paying the full price since the three-month
grace period ended and though I want to cancel it, I
always forget. Which just goes to show how subscription
business models work. Oops, I'm out of focus. Back to
GoldNames.
The interview is amazing. David tells how
successful the company was. How he envisioned the idea
when he registered his first domain in August 1999. How
he had over 50 employees. How respectable investors gave
money. What great press coverage they got. Bla, bla,
bla. 2 point something down the drain. But this is all
gossip and you can read this at Maariv site anyway.
The thing here is the title Maariv gave
this.
"A personal angle on the High-Tech
Crisis".
High-Tech?
There is nothing High-Tech about setting
an investment bank for domain names (what is this
anyway?).
Nothing.
And as GoldNames is just an example, it
made me think.
Our Jewish roots are coming back. A lot of
the Wadi is unfortunately not doing High-Tech at all. It
is doing what Jews are good at. It is not a bubble. It
has another name.
Luftgeschaefte.
