:: How to treat your employees - Part II ::

Last time I promised you A way to keep your employees happy.

I found an article at IBM's web-site (The irony, the irony) called "How to treat your employees or, how to give me money". Since I know you're busy and don't have to read through, I'll try to sum it up for you. Call it an executive summary if you wish.

1. "Employees have another life outside the office". I hear a lot of you saying "yeah, right". But it's true. Believe it or not - Overtime is not a standard. You have to earn it. You have to make your employees want to work that overtime for you.

2. "Employee Privacy". All you HR people who form up questionnaires asking about the applicants military service. Is this really necessary? Think again.

3. "Respect the job, respect the employee" - How many times did you hire someone without really knowing what he/she are going to do? "He's a good guy. We'll bring him to the company, and find something to do with him". Sounds familiar? If you don't really think the job is important, don't waste some poor guy's time making him try to do it"

4. Finally - An action item - If you have an employee handbook, read it. Would you be happy if all the policies were enforced?
