:: Holes in Their Mind ::

I just had a chance to meet briefly one of the Wadi top Venture Capitalists.

The person who introduced me said "this is X form Y". I said "Hi, nice to meet you" and he asked "so you work with Z?" and I said "yep", and he asked me "and before, what did you do?" and I said "this in Computers, this on the Internet and that in Telecomm". And he said "nice, but for which companies?".

And I said "well, most of the time I was a freelance". And he was very disappointed.

VC people have holes in their mind. Holes boxed by past experience. Fill the hole and you fill the box. Fill the box and you have a deal. You fit in. If you don't - well this is a great disappointment.

Now though understanding where the recent and huge VC mistakes stemmed from is a cool intellectual game, there is something more here. An opportunity.

Give them what they want.

If you work for a Big-Name company just pull your head out of the cubicle. Gather the people around you, the cleaning lady will do just fine, and go take the money. I heard seed rounds are larger these days and those VC are just sitting on piles they have nowhere to spend, so you'll have a lot of cash to spend once you sell them the deal.

Only problem is, a lot of people with past Big-Name experience are looking for jobs these days. They might be reading this and might beat you to the door. Hell, if you don't pull your stuff fast enough a lot of people with past Big-Name VC experience are going to be looking for jobs too.

Even the amount of crap the holes in their mind can hold is limited.

So hurry.
