:: Breakeven ::
You should say it fast, in a low voice:
"Breakeven". One word. Small word. Big
problem.
Some of the names about to appear in the
press as winded up Start-Ups in the coming months can
still change their destiny. Those companies still have
the chance to Breakeven. But they won't. They will not
make themselves self-sustained. They will walk to their
death the same way they walked through their whole life
- with strong faith and head high. Proud honorable money
drinking leeches.
And "The System" is to blame. It
is always "The System". Always.
When investors, following the so American
model of Venture Capital, invest in a company they don't
care about building a business. They care about selling
their stock to somebody else. So they don't care about
building a business step by step. They care about their
"Exit". They even have a name for it.
"Exit Strategy".
And they train the founders and management
to think the same way. So no one is thinking about
coming to work doing business. Everyone is thinking
about coming to work and doing "The Exit".
And so they will.
But just before they do, if you work for
such a company and do value what you have created, go
and ask your founders and management about it. Just say
it fast, in a low voice: "Can we
Breakeven?".
It won't help, but at least you'll know
you did all you can.
And that by itself is worth something.
