A blast from the past. Hey.
And I thought that watching "The
Muppet Show" or "Thunderbird" reruns
would make me feel like I'm looking into the past. Or
looking at the stars, watching suns that were there
millions of years ago.
No, the Internet has its time machines as
well. This week they're called "girafa.com". A
good friend of mine, a real journalist, you know the
ones whose words are printed on paper, send me this
press release for a site and service (even the phrase
"site and service" sounds old) called
girafa.com.
This thing, this service, pre-downloads
thumbnailed visual sum-ups of web sites before you
download them. Meaning? You do a web search, and the
detailed information that the engine provides (link,
text, highlighted keywords) are not good enough for you.
With girafa.com you can also see a visual thumbnail of
the site. Same goes for your favorites (I think).
Not that you can read anything on that
thumbnail, but you can see if, for example, the colors
of that page match the color scheme you like for you
information. And as to your favorites, they are probably
news sites, so you can be sure that CNN.com didn't
change their layout over night.
Business plan? Meager. Feel? 1999. I mean,
guys! Haven't you heard? It's over.
It's over.
Whatever "it" was.
Go to girafa.com just to experience the
enthusiasm of early 1999 again, if only for a split
second. The "management" part is especially
funny.
