:: State of the ART
::
What do you think of voice recognition?
Cool right?
And handwriting recognition? Just as
cool.
So?
So ART (Advanced Recognition
Technologies), a Wadi company doing both voice and
handwriting recognition, should be the coolest thing
around. In a way it is. But not in the way you think
of.
If you dig into this you will figure that
those two technologies actually compete with each other.
If one does voice input one will not do handwriting
input and if one does pen input one would keep his mouth
shut. So though those two methods have very similar
technical characteristics, they compete with each other
on user attention.
Now a story.
Some friends of mine once stood in Union
Square, NYC, looking to find a Noodles place called
something like Sammy's Noodles. One of them had a cell
phone so he called TellMe, the world leading Voice
Portal, the other had a Palm with a downloaded Zagat
guide on it and he started browsing the directory. A
head-on challenge for those two input technologies.
What happened?
This time Pen Computing won. Next time, it
might go the other way. At the end of the day it doesn't
matter which technology is cool what matters is which is
useful.
And the real cool thing?
ART has both covered.
Smart don't you think?
