:: A successful start-up
::
In the midst of the dot-com breakdown, we
have forgotten one wadi company that has survived the
winter. Not only did their business model not fail, they
actually did very well.
While this is not surprising by itself,
what is surprising is that the company succeeded in
doing exactly the same that so many other dot-com's were
trying to do. Our company was giving away free content
and taking money for advertisement.
Came April, 2000 (giving the phrase
"April's fool" a whole new meaning) and while
other companies repositioned, relocated or recollected
their belongings, our little company just kept getting
more and more money for advertisement, and they even
kept giving away their content for free. Free as in
beer. And imagine that: They didn't even have a Related
Content feature, an Expert System or an Affiliate
Program. Free content and advertisement.
If you think you're amazed, add to the
curiosity of the incident that their whole content was
in Hebrew, thus limiting themselves to a very - and I
mean very small audience. But at the end of the day, you
can't argue with the numbers: Channel 2 television is
doing great. Has done, will do.
Maybe it's because they have figured out
the best way to stream media is analog non-personalized
RF?
