My previous letter (16th February) did not receive a direct reply. Thanks to Wadi Rum Forum, however, I was not the only one writing, and on 17th March, Tony Howard and Di Taylor received this mail from RSCN. Their reply is on their website, but they also forwarded the mail to me (Kate) at Wadi Rum Forum. |
Hi Tony and Di I would like to thnk you for your continoues support for RSCN activities in Rum and other sites. We are also so greatful to you for keeping us infromed about correspondence related to wadi rum. I revieved recently several e-mails from differnt groups and individuals related to mountain climbing and conservation of beduins rights, all these corresponce it seems to be that they misunderstand whta is happening in Rum, some of them they talk about stopping climbing in wadi rum, other group is talking about marginaliszing the local people, and others are talking about stopping grazing inside the proteced area. You know for sure that it is not right at all and RSCN wants to develope and encurage tourism in Wadi Rum and make sure that the local community derive the maximim benifit from that as i explained that to you in prevoius e amils. I will be greatful to you if you can help us in conveying this message to all related groups that deal with mountian climbing through your communication network. Sincerly yours Yehya Khaled |
