Quite a common sight in Sri Lanka during rush hours. The railway system introduced during the British period was not extended an inch after independence till very, very recently, that too only a dozen of miles. Instead, existing lines have been truncated. The narrow gauge train which went hissing all the way to Ratnapura and a bit beyond along the picturesque Kelani Valley ( Kelani is one of the major rivers here ) is an example.
The proposed Matara-Kataragama railway may forever remain a proposal.
