Ruritan Club Crab Feast
Mattaponi River, King William, VA
Our local Ruritan Club hosts an annual Crab Feast down here in the boonies the 4th weekend in July. Here is some general information. If you want to make this a club event, I will organize it for everyone. Last year, I only had one person interested, (George B), so I didn't organize it.
Who: Anyone who is
lucky enough to get one of the 2500 tickets that go on sale (tickets sell by end
of June).
What: Ruritan Annual Crab Feast
Where: On the Mattaponi River,
King William, VA 23181
When: 4th weekend
in July, rain or shine, noon-8:00 pm
Why: For those who want their
money's worth in picking crabs
How: One hour drive from
I-95/Fredericksburg exit, two hour drive from I-66/495 Interchange
Cost: $30 per person (price
reflects the availability of the Cheasepeak Blue Crab, but well worth it if
you love crabs)
Other Info:
-All you can eat crabs, (they dump them by the bushesl in front of you) hot
dogs, hamburgers, beans, potato salad, etc.
-All you can drink (soft drinks and beer)
-Open horseshoes and volleyball for anyone to enjoy
-Continuous live band(s) and dancing
under pavillions (mostly pop and country music)
--Event is staffed with several local
and VA State Police to ensure nobody gets stupid
-Event is staffed with at least two
local EMS units
-PG-13 Environment (due to the free beer environment, but the police
presence deter most over-indulgers)
This place has about 10+ acres of open-field parking (more like a lawn)
and if I had enough interested, I can ask for our own section (next to the
police cruiser section) and maybe a car show open to the public.
Let Tracy
Porter know who's interested.

Friday at the Track (FATT)
Summit Point Raceway, Charlestown, WV
After much enjoyment at the first FATT this year, many WAILers that attended that FATT are heading out to Summit Point again to have a blast speeding around their 2-mile road coarse, as well as receive some classroom training, and some skid pad fun!
At the April FATT we had plans to hold a cookout afterwards which were scrapped due to the number of people planning to head up to Englishtown raceway the following day. Those plans may get resurrected for this event!
If you haven't already signed up, its probably too late!

Picnic at the Park
Woodward Park, Washington Grove, MD
1pm - Dusk
* All Impala
enthusiasts, 9C1's, & muscle cars regardless of brand are welcome *
This is an "on-the-green" party, on a 10 acre soccer/baseball field
with room for 100+ cars to line up on the grass, with a large adjoining
picnicarea under HUGE oak trees, a beautiful setting, public rest rooms, lots of
neat playground equipment spread out over a couple of acres , tennis courts,
basketball court, forest preserve with walking trails.Bring the kids and family
for all afternoon fun. There's even a freshwater swimming lake (Maple Lake)
that's in the town, white sand beach and all, and there's a lifeguard on
duty.
We'll have:
* Big white 20x30 party tent set up next to the field
by the trees, with several 8' tables for all the pot luck food (that everyone
will bring)
* electricity for a TV/VCR, and there are outdoor
picnic tables under the trees, and plenty of chairs under the tent.
* A Raffle to win prizes donated by WAIL members and
vendor/sponsors.
Overall, an opportunity for all of us to get together in a large group to see
all of the latest and wide array of mods, share stories, ask questions, meet new
members from near and afar, see old friends, and enjoy all the good food that
our guys and gals make.
What YOU need to do:
* Let me know ASAP if you're attending* mailto:rpostss@erols.com,
mailto:rpostss@softhome.net, and I'll
keep a tally of who's coming.
* Bring something to share with everyone at the pot luck food
tables...entrees, side dishes, deserts, salads, beverages (alcohol is ok),
whatever.
* We need a cook for the charcoal grill for hamburgers, hot
dogs, chicken wings, etc.
* Anything else anybody wants to set-up, let me know...I'm
working on a couple of DJ's for music (that do the Jimmie Cones night).
This is a no-cost to-you affair folks, but we need your help. Sponsors,
volunteers, donations for the raffle.
Again. LET ME KNOW ASAP if you're coming, and what you're bringing. We didn't
have a spring picnic (because of the cost), so this is a "summer" free
picnic :-)

Fathers
Day at the Track
Summit Point Raceway, Charlestown, WV
On Fathers Day, Sunday June 17, the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) set up a Car Corral for the WAIL Club and all of our friends and family that wanted to join us at the Summit Point Raceway in Summit Point WV. They gave us a roped-off parking and viewing area right next to the track where we could be with our cars and watch the races at the same time. It was one of the best viewing areas on the track. All week-end the SCCA was running one of their regional MARRS (Mid-Atlantic Road Racing Series ) races. We saw lots of different class cars go at it, including a lot of A/S (American Sedans) like Mustangs, Camaros, Cobras, Vipers, Vettes etc. The cost is normally $15 per person but SCCA arranged to get us $10 discounted tickets. Kids 12 and under got in free. Racing started at 8:30 AM and went until around 5 PM.
In an effort to raise money for the Track Library, they sold a series of parade laps, which they offered us the discounted rate of $10/car. Once on the track they treated us to ~8 laps, at speeds up to 90 mph!! Most everyone participated - though a few wives didn't appreciate the ride as much as the drivers and the kids! <G>
A big thanks to the SCCA for the invitation, and the Gary Carderelli for all of the coordination!

Drag Racing and Eating (official
name yet undetermined!)
Mason Dixon Dragway, Boonsboro, MD
WAIL is planning to get together for some Drag racing and eating, not necessarily in that order! This event is still in the planning stages, The date is set, and the activities are set. Just which order they happen is still being worked out. Mason Dixon Dragway (www.masondixondragway.com) is holding a test-n-tune that day which ends at 5pm. So I think everyone is leaning towards racing, THEN eating. Stay tuned....
