Chue Wai Lian's Computer |
I have been fiddling with computers since 1985. My first computer was an Apple IIe (Any one here ever heard of it ??? ) with only 64KB of memory, a 5¼" floppy drive and a monochrome monitor. Imagine the slow 'turtle' processing speed of the 8-bit microprocessor (MOS 6502) of the Apple IIe.
In 1990, as the PC became popular and affordable, my dad bought me an IBM clone. It was equipped with an Intel 80286 microprocessor, 2MB of memory, a 5¼" and 3½" floppy drive, a 40MB hard disk and a dot-matrix printer. 2 years later, I upgraded my PC to include a mouse, 4MB of memory, a 340MB hard disk and an Intel 80486 microprocessor (Needed to run Windows 3.1).
In 1996, I assembled a Classic Intel Pentium computer system in preparation for my undergraduate studies @ NTU. It was equipped with an Intel 133Mhz Pentium Processor (with Intel 82439HX Chipset and 512 KB SRAM Pipelined Burst Cache), 16 MB of EDO DRAM, S3 Trio 64V+ SVGA Card (with 2 MB EDO DRAM), 5¼" and 3½" floppy drive, Quantum Sirocco 1.7 GB Hard Disk, Philips Brilliance 15A SVGA Monitor, Creative Labs Sound Blaster 16 & 8x Speed CD-ROM Drive, Hewlett Packard DeskJet 660C Colour Printer and US Robotics Sportster 33.6kps Fax Modem. 2 years later, I upgraded my PC to include a Microsoft IntelliMouse and 80 MB of EDO DRAM using my very first IA allowance. I also bought a ADC E-KEY Smart Card Reader (@ a very special discounted rate) when I was selected to be a trial user for POSB Internet Banking before it's commercial launch. I won a Creative Labs GamePad during Creative's multimedia carnival @ Ngee Ann City in December 1998.
In 2000, I decided to assemble a brand new computer system. Its configuration is as follows with upgraded RAM, new CDRW, HD and printer added in 2002:
Intel 800EB Pentium III Processor (800 Mhz, 133 FSB, Coppermine) |
