Liz sighed. "That is Lucky's cousin, Sly. He didn't know that Lucky is alive."
"Really? I thought everyone knew that," Tammy said.
"Yeah, that's what we thought, too. I think we gave him the shock of a lifetime."
Tammy closed the cash register. "His cousin? Well, he looks a lot like Luke. It's pretty eerie."
"Yeah, I know. I've never seen him before today. Lucky only told me a little about him, but apparently, Sly's late father looks exactly like Luke. They were first cousins. That would explain the resemblance. So Sly looks like his father."
"Identical cousins? It sounds like the Patty Duke Show!" Tammy laughed.
"Well, the Spencers never have been normal." Liz joked. "Are we done?"
"Yeah, see you soon, Liz."
"Bye, Tammy."
Liz exited the restaurant. Emily was sitting at one of the tables with Sly, trying to explain how to approach Lucky.
"Don't expect him to welcome you with open arms. He's changed a lot this past year."
"From what you've told me, I'm not expecting much. I just hope that he won't push me away," Sly said.
"Don't count on it." Liz cracked. Where did that come from, she thought.
"So, any ideas about where we could find him?" Emily asked.
"Well, I keep running into him on the docks. Let's go there."
Emily and Sly followed Liz to the docks.
Lucky Spencer stood on the docks, looking pensively at the water. He couldn't understand his own behavior lately. All of the time he was away, the only thing that kept him going was seeing his family and friends again. He longed to see his parents, and Elizabeth. Then when he actually saw them, something very strong inside him just told him to stay away. Something was really wrong with him, and he couldn't understand why.
Liz, Emily, and Sly slowly approached the docks. "This is where he usually can be found."
Then Emily spotted him. "Look, there he is."
Liz turned to Sly. "Let's go down. Sly, don't be too disappointed if he leaves."
Sly nodded.
Lucky could sense that someone was approaching. He turned to see Liz, Emily, and his cousin Sly.
Lucky gave them a confused look. "Sly? What are you doing here?"
Sly smiled. He could feel his heart beating wildly in his chest. "Lucky," he whispered.
"Why are you here? Is something wrong?"
"No, Lucky, something is right. You're alive!"
Lucky sighed. "I thought everybody knew by now."
"Well, you forgot to inform your favorite cousin. They just told me today," Sly motioned to Liz and Emily. "I caused quite a scene at Kelly's."
Lucky looked at Liz. The feelings were starting to rise up again. He couldn't face her, not when she was looking at him with so much pain in her eyes.
"Sly, why don't we get out of here?"
Sly looked at Emily and Liz, both of whom looked really hurt. "Come on Lucky, can't they stay?"
Lucky felt anger beginning to rise. "No, Sly, either you come with me or not."
He looked again at the girls with a conflicted look. "Just go, Sly," Emily said.
"Ok, let me walk you to the car." He started to walk away with them when he turned back to Lucky. "Don't you go anywhere," he mock threatened.
He walked Liz and Emily to Emily's midnight blue BMW. "I'm sorry, I never
expected him to demand that you leave."
"One thing you're going to learn is to expect the unexpected with this
Lucky," Liz said.
Emily and Liz climbed into the car. "Be careful," Emily said. "He's not the same. Don't let him break your heart."
"Don't worry, that's already been taken care of," he smiled. "Thanks, Liz, and I'll see you tomorrow, Emily."
"Bye," Emily called, and she peeled out of the parking lot.
"Remind me never to let her drive me anywhere," Sly said to no one in particular. He walked back to the docks. Lucky was pacing back and forth.
"Lucky, why did you send them out of here?"
"Sly, do you feel like taking a walk?"
"You're changing the subject." Lucky rolled his eyes. "As long as I can see you, Lucky, I'll be happy."
"Then come with me. Let's go."
Lucky and Sly walked in silence. Lucky could feel Sly looking at him. He just couldn't get used to everyone staring at him all the time. "Do I have something on my shirt?" he finally joked.
Sly looked away. "Sorry, it's not everyday that your best friend returns from the dead. Gee, you think living in Port Charles, I would be used to it by now."
Lucky chuckled. "Yeah."
Sly soon realized where they were headed. "Lucky, why are we going here?"
"Come on, Sly, don't you remember? It's our sanctuary."
Sly looked up at the entrance to the catacombs and took a deep breath. Lucky
had already entered inside. Sly slowly followed Lucky into the place of his
deepest sadness.
