Movies

I love a well-made film...and even some not-so-well made films. It's a great way to just space out for a couple of hours and experience the vision of the creators. I like most genres... the only thing I really don't like are those silly horror flicks like Friday the 13th Part XXXV.

A lot of these links may be dead, but I'm working on 'em!

One of my most favorite movies of all time is Stanley Kubrick's epic sci-fi masterpiece 2001: a space odyssey. This is a classic, not only because it's content was years ahead of it's time, but because the artistry of the film itself is excellent, with great special effects for the time and beautiful and effective cinematography. What impressed me the most was the sparing use of background music, giving a true feel of the vast loneliness of deep space.

Second on the list of all-time faves has got to be Aliens. Definitely the best of the series (though I can't wait to see 'Resurrection'), this was James Cameron's _third_ film, if you cn believe that. All I can say is that Ripley kicks butt!!! This is one good flick!

Next, of course, is Mel Gibson's breakthrough film, The Road Warrior. OK, some might say it was just a bunch of hulking, hockey-mask wearing bikers driving around in the desert fighting over gas....but it was so COOL!

The next two come from one excellent director, Ridley Scott (who directed the first 'Alien'). One of the most visually beautiful fantasy films has got to be Legend. Tom Cruise got scoffed because he did this film but I think it was a magnificent experience. This is a real gem. Check out the Legend FAQ . The other Ridley Scott film is Blade Runner. An excellent sci-fi detective story, this movie has tons of pages devoted to it on the web.

Another one of my favorite directors is John Boorman. He's done some great flicks, like Excalibur, Deliverance, Beyond Rangoon, and my personal favorite, The Emerald Forest.
