CPR Saves Lives!!The Delavan Rescue Squad Inc. offers training for the members of the community in CPR and First Aid. The classes are taught by experienced EMTs and Paramedics of the Delavan Rescue Squad Inc. ensuring that “real-life” situations are taught and addressed. There are several standard classes available and special courses can be tailored to meet specific requirements of the audience such as; babysitter, lifeguards, new parents, employee or day care providers. We offer a variety of standard classes, ranging from CPR for the layperson (non-healthcare provider), to CPR for HealthCare Provider in addition to First Aid. Below is a breakdown of the types of classes/certifications we offer. CPR for Friends & Family Description- CPR for Family and Friends is a modular course that teaches rescuers skills in CPR and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction. It presents information about the Adult Chain of Survival and signs of heart attack, cardiac arrest, stroke and choking in adults. The course also presents information on the Pediatric Chain of Survival, signs of choking in an infants and children, prevention of sudden infant death syndrome, and prevention of the most common fatal injuries in infants and children. CPR and choking skills are introduced, but not practiced extensively. Length - 2 to 3.5 hours Test - None Who’s this class for: All lay rescuers such as school children, family members of patients at risk for sudden cardiac death, and other laypersons who want to learn rescue skills for loved ones. AHA Heartsaver CPR Description - The Heartsaver course is a modular course that teaches lay rescuers how to recognize and treat life-threatening emergencies, including cardiac arrest choking for adult, child, and infant victims. Participants also learn to recognize the warning signs of heart attack and stroke in adults and breathing difficulties in children. Extensive classroom instruction and practice on mannequins is covered. An emphasis is placed on recognition and assessment using the Airway (A), Breathing (B), and Circulation (C) technique. The program is divided into 3 possible courses; first - Heartsaver for adult only, second - Heartsaver for pediatric only, third - Heartsaver for all ages. This course also includes a section for Automated External Defibrillator (AED) that can go with the adult Heartsaver course. This course is specifically designed for lay rescuers who are required to obtain a course completion card (certification) documenting completion of a CPR course. Textbooks are available for pick up at our office and are included in the course. Upon successful completion, participants receive an American Heart Association Heartsaver card valid for 2 years. Test: Required for certification card Who’s this class for - All lay rescuers, such as employees in the workplace, daycare employees, babysitters, firefighters, police, airline personnel, security guards, camp counselors, bus drivers, life-guards, etc. Length of class - 3 hours each for adult or pediatric only; 6 - 7 hours for the entire course. AHA Healthcare Provider CPR Description - The Healthcare Provider Course is designed to teach the skills of CPR for victims of all ages (including ventilation with barrier device, a bag-mask device, and oxygen), use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (FBAO). It is intended for participants who provide health care to patients in a wide variety of settings, including in-hospital and out-of-hospital. The Healthcare Provider textbook is included. You may pick up the textbook at our office. It is advisable to obtain the book prior to class. Upon successful completion, participants receive the American Heart Association CPR for Healthcare Provider card valid for 2 years. Test - Required for certification Who’s this class for - Healthcare providers, such as physicians, nurses, paramedics, EMTs, respiratory therapists, medical students in training, aides, and other allied health personnel Length of class - 8 hours Pre-requisite - None
AHA Healthcare Provider CPR - Renewal Description - This course provides the opportunity to update CPR skills in a condensed format. Participants will earn an American Heart Association Healthcare Provider course completion card that is valid for 2 years. This course focuses on practical skills with a general review of the material. Test - Required for certification Who’s this class for - Health care providers that need to renew their certification. Length of class - 3-4 hours Pre-requisite - A current AHA Healthcare Provider CPR card. You may take this class up to 6 months after expiration of your card. You must also bring to class a current AHA Healthcare Provider Textbook. Books are available for purchase for $10.
AHA Heartsaver First Aid Description - This course teaches rescuers to effectively recognize and treat adult emergencies in the critical minutes before emergency medical services personnel arrive. The course provides Medical Emergencies, Injury Emergencies, Environmental Emergencies, Adult CPR, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED). This course can be modified to meet different needs. Participants will earn an American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid course completion card that is valid for 2 years. Test: Required for certification Who’s this class for - Lay people assigned to respond to emergencies in the workplace or community as well as those who want to learn first aid, CPR, and AED. Some rescuers are required to take this course as part of their employer’s efforts to comply with OSHA regulations, e.g., security guards, airline personnel, lifeguards and other individuals who want or need first aid training.
Length of class: 3-7 hours (depending on course modifications chosen)
