No Frills Flying
I had my first experience with Australian no-frills airline.. Jetstar.. at the weekend.   At present Jetstar has no allocated seats.  It's first on gets the best seats.  But 1 has to question some of the guidelines.  People with orange passes board first.  These are people with children and those that need assistance.  But some I saw were neither.

And blue is for people who check in early.  Why????

Finally there's grey or silver or something.

I got that one.. despite paying a fortune to Jetstar's parent company, Qantas to be a member of its elite Qantas Club.   I had to fly Jetstar as Qantas doesn't operate on the route.

Oh and back to why blue boarding for those who check in early.. I had no luggage, so it's not like I was making baggage handlers do any extra work which may delay the flight.  And there's a condition that if you aren't there at least 30 minutes in advance you don't get on the flight anyhow.  And I was there before the deadline.

Well.. Jetstar's changing its policy in October.. they'll have allocated seating.. I might get my favourite seating then.

Welcome to Southwest Airlines. I hate free-for-all seating and have heard there are more airlines here in the US that are going to experiment with it. But I'm with you, if you're following the guidelines, why are you punished? And who's monitoring the violators (i.e., the early boarders who have no children and need no assistance)? Well, don't let it get your blood pressure up. It got you to where you needed to be, right? :D

One time we were waiting to board our flight. Harry's back was bothering him so he went and stood against the wall by a door. After a shortwhile everyone had stood up and lined up behind him down the wall. Then he went and sat in the chair closest to the departure walkway. We still laugh at that one.

Add me to the list of those who HATES not having a seat assignment. Since I'm usually traveling alone - if I'm running a bit late due to a connection -I have to do the walk of shame down the aisle deciding whose row I should invade :(. Does this no frills mean there's beginning to be a bit of competition in flights over there, Bundy? Carol - that story is wonderful.......I have the visual......
