Verses of August

Week of 8/26/2001 to 9/1/2001

And Ezra the priest brought the law before the assembly, both men and women, and all who could hear with understanding, on the first day of the seventh month...And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people (for he was above all the people); and when he opened it, all the people stood up. And Ezra blessed Jehovah the great God; and all the people answered, Amen, Amen, lifting up their hands. And they bowed their heads and worshipped Jehovah with their faces to the ground. (Nehemiah 8:2, 5-6)

It is amazing how much respect that the Jews showed the Word of God here, that they would all stand up when the book was opened! I feel that I need to show the Word more respect, because it really is the Word of God and His personal letter to us, and every word of it is the breath of God!

I'm very glad of this. I think reading the Bible will become very useful as school begins next week.

Week of 8/19/2001 to 8/25/2001

But whenever their heart turns to the lord, the veil is taken away. And the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. (2 Corinthians 3:16-17)

Many times, including times during this week, I felt like I wasn't acting "religious" enough. I felt like in order to please the Lord, I had to be reading the Bible every single minute of the day. Of course, that's not plausible. I like these verses because it shows that the veil between us and the Lord is not taken away by us doing a certain ritual action, but by our turning our hearts to the Lord. This is wonderful! I don't need to be reading the Word to enjoy the Lord (though that's good also). All I need to do is turn to Him, any time, any day, any and every moment! Then verse 17 says that by turning to the Lord, who is the Spirit, we have freedom!

School is starting in two weeks. I'll not get as much free time at home and won't be able to read the Word whenever I'd like, but all I have to do is turn my heart to the Lord at any time and I shall have freedom in the lord.

Week of 8/12/2001 to 8/18/2001

Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all into His hands and that He had come forth from God and was going to God, rose from from supper and laid aside His outer garments; and taking a towel, He girded Himself; then He poured water into the basin and began to wash the disciples' feet and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded. (John 13:3-5)

I just really enjoyed how humble and loving the Lord is with us as shown in these verses. He was given all by the Father! Yet He was willing and is still willing to stoop down and wash our feet, our sometimes bad-smelling feet! How loving He is, and what an example He sets! Everyday He stoops down to wash away our dirtiness from the world, to sanctify us so we can enjoy fellowshipping with Him. What a wonderful picture! What a wonderful Savior!

Week of 8/5/2001 to 8/11/2001

Having been regenerated not of corruptible seed but of incorruptible, through the living and abiding word of God. (1 Peter 1:23)
As newborn babes long for the guileless milk of the word in order that by it you may grow unto salvation, if you have tasted that the Lord is good. (1 Peter 2:2-3)
And that from a babe you have known the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise unto salvation through the faith which is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for teaching, for conviction, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, fully equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:15-17)

I haven't updated for a long time because I was moving in January this year, and last year in December I became very busy in school and packing business. Then when I moved to here in Philadelphia, I was so busy trying to get used to my new school that I neglected this page until now. I am so glad that the Lord led me back to it. Hopefully, I'll be more consistent now.

Anyways, I liked these verses because I realized this past month how precious the Word of God is, that is, the Bible. It's the whole basis of the Christian faith, and it God's very personal letter to us. That's so wonderful! These verses say that the Word is like milk for the babies, even the breath of God! I encourage every believer of Christ to read the Bible a bit every day, even if it seems boring sometimes, because through it we shall know God's purpose and heart's desire for man, and by it we may grow unto full salvation!
