Verses of May
Week of 5/26/2002 to 6/1/2002
Beloved, do not think that the fiery ordeal among you, coming to you
for a trial, is strange, as if it were a strange thing happening to you;
But inasmuch as you share in the sufferings of Christ, rejoice, so that
also at the revelation of His glory you may rejoice exultingly. If you
are reproached in the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit
of glory and of God rests upon you. For let none of you suffer as a murderer
or a thief or an evildoer or as a meddler into others' affairs; but if as
a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in this name.
(1 Peter 4:12-16)
The term "Christian" used to be a term of reproach for the believers of
Christ, starting in Antioch. Thus, the last verse says, "but if as a
Christian, let him not be ashamed..." Though Christian is no longer a
derogatory term today, I feel that we are often still reproached for being
Christians, for believing in and loving Christ. In the "open-minded" atmosphere
of today, anyone who does actually and truly believe in Jesus Christ is
often looked down to as a hypocrite or a deluded, "backward" person. The
modern world has no room or heart for the Lord. Yet their reproach towards
us is not a cause of shame or suffering, but should be a glory. I know
I don't like to be reproached, but I guess I should remember that it is
an honor to be reproached for His name. Praise the Lord that we are
Christians, people who are one with Christ!
Week of 5/19/2002 to 5/25/2002
For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did
not know God, God was well pleased through the foolishness of the preaching
to save those who believe. For indeed Jews require signs and Greeks seek
wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block, and
to Gentiles foolishness, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks,
Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. Because the foolishness of
God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
(1 Corinthians 1:21-25)
We preaching and talking about Christ might look like foolishness to others,
but through the preaching God can save those who believe. I have been making
stands for the Lord in school recently, and though it's very hard and I'm
sure some think I'm making a fool of myself, it is much better to be a fool in
Christ than to be wise in the world. God in His power is able to subject
all things under Christ's feet and head up all things in Him, so we who
are in Him are not weak either. Praise the Lord for His wisdom and power.
Lord, keep us following and enjoying You no matter our situation!
Week of 5/12/2002 to 5/18/2002
I say then, Has God cast away His people? Absolutely not! For I also
am an Israelite, out of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin...But
by their misstep salvation has come to the Gentiles, to provoke them to
jealousy. But if their misstep has become riches for the world, and their
loss, riches for the Gentiles, how much more will their fulness be!...For
if their being cast aside is the reconciliation of the world, what will
their being received back be, if not life from the dead?...For I do not
want you, brothers, to be ignorant of this mystery (lest you be wise in
yourselves), that hardness has come upon Israel in part, until the fullness
of the Gentiles comes in;...According to the gospel they are enemies for
your sake, but according to the selection they are beloved for the fathers'
sake. for the gracious gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. (Romans
11:1; 11b-12; 15; 25; 28-29)
And they also, if they do not continue in unbelief, will be grafted in, for
God is able to graft them in again. (Romans 11:23)
Though the Jews are our enemies for the gospel's sake, they are still beloved,
because God has chosen them as well. I am just amazed that God loves
us so much and has so much mercy that he would allow His chosen people to misstep
in order for us to be saved! I am pained for the Jews' situation right now, and I
just earnestly pray for them to see the Lord and for them to turn and be saved,
because only in their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ will they be
grafted in again; then we can truly be one in the Lord.
Week of 5/5/2002 to 5/11/2002
Yet those who wait on Jehovah will renew their strength; they will
mount up with wings like eagles; they will run and will not faint; they
will walk and will not become weary. (Isaiah 40:31)
The Lord always gives enough strength. These two weeks are supposed to be
the busiest two weeks, but I feel all right. I really feel that without
the Lord's abiding, I would not be able to feel this way. Praise the Lord!
Week of 4/28/2002 to 5/4/2002
Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words shall by no means pass
away. (Mark 13:31)
The Lord's word is always true, and it convicts and encourages us. I am
so glad that He lives in us, and thus can speak to us through the Bible
and through the other believers. I just found out that a person I had from
which I had been fearing ridicule is a believer as well. I am very joyful!
The Lord's word is true. We shouldn't be afraid. I am glad that we can
trust in His words, which will not pass away even if heaven and earth passes
away.
