Okay, forget the disclaimers. You've read enough of them, you know what goes here. Skip to the story already! Fizzy Pop, Inc presents a story by }=]DarkNate Knowledge is Power: Book One Know Thy Enemy "So baby, dry your eyes Save all the tears you've cried. Oh that's what dreams are made of. Cause we belong in a world that must be strong. Oh that's what dreams are made of!" "Dreams", Van Halen Chapter Two Shinji was having a nice dream about his female fanclub showering him with attention, presenting him with desserts, smiles, and other 'aughty but nice' things. He was, for once, totally relaxed, and smiling broadly, when he heard Shizuka's voice. "I hate to interrupt, but we have to get up now. There's school today, and you can see them in real life." Shinji woke up, rolled over out of bed, and landed on his feet. One of the benefits of Shizuka seemed to be a sort of graceful acrobatic ability that allowed him to balance better and react more fluidly to things. As far as he could tell, it was because Shizuka was subtly influencing his movements, and having the extra center of concentration helped a lot. Shinji was feeling more confident every day. "Enough thinking. You have to get dressed, and make breakfast before Misato wakes up and starts whining!" Shizuka scolded. "Alright already!" Shinji replied mentally. That ability had also been honed to near perfection. Shinji no longer had to speak out loud to Shizuka. He could focus a thought and send it to his guide silently. Helpful for public situations like school. Shinji was dressed, and had breakfast set up for everyone very quickly. Pen-Pen slurped his sardines happily, favoring Shinji with a soft "wuagh" of approval. Sometimes, Shinji thought, Pen-Pen's noises almost sounded like speech... Misato staggered in, hung over as usual, and wearing a tiny pair of shorts and crop-top that only just came down to cover her ribcage. Shinji felt his eyes slide away, and was once again grateful to Shizuka for keeping his mind off Misato's looks. Misato, for her part, flopped down into her seat at the table, popped open her first beer, and downed it in one gulp. :"YEEEEHAAAAW!That's the way to start your morning!" Shinji just sighed, and waved her off. He grabbed his lunch, and went to the door, where Touji and Kensuke had just stepped onto the landing outside the elevator. "I'm off to school now, Misato!" he called, and joined his friends. As they made their way, Touji said, "Man, I envy you, Shinji." "What do you mean?" Shinji replied. Shizuka performed the mental equivalent of rolling his eyes, and silently said, "Oh no, here we go!" Kensuke cut in. "You know what we mean. You get to pilot the Eva, you know all sorts of classified military stuff, and best of all-" Touji joind in then, and the pair said in perfect unison, "You get to live with Misato!" Shinji shook his head and sighed. "You have no idea what torture that is. I'd rather fight four Angels all at once than deal with her hangovers. And she gets them VERY FRICKIN' DAY! How can she still function with all the stuff she drinks? I'm surprised she still has a liver!" Touji and Kensuke we're not listening, as they fantasized about Shinji's beautiful guardian, unaware that he had another that was far closer. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Shinji, we're going to see the Angel's body today. You need to get up!" Shinji sighed, and rolled out of bed. He should have been used to this by now, but Shizuka's voice was so damned familiar to him from somewhere, he got nervous trying to puzzle out where he'd heard it before. However, at least he was used to being woken out of a sound sleep by the whispers in his mind. Shinji went about the daily routine of getting dressed, making breakfast, and preparing his lunch for school. Pen-Pen was gulping down his sardines like they were gourmet meals, as usual. Shizuka was going over the day's schedule, quietly but easily heard. Misato was just opening the door, dressed in her usual skimpy pajamas. However, this time, Shinji noticed something he hadn't noticed before. "Misato, what's that white mark on your, umm, your..." he stumbled over the last word, unable to say 'chest' because she might think he was staring at her breasts, not the area beneath them. She however, must have guessed what he was talking about, because she suddenly become cold sober, and her face fell. She tugged the hem of her shirt down, covering the mark, and said softly, "It a scar from the Second Impact. I was the only one who survived the expedition to the pole. When it happened, my dad saved me by throwing me into a life-capsule, and I drifted out to sea. I don't like to talk about it." "Oh. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have pried." Misato immediately switched back to her old happily-drunken self, and reached over to muss his hair. "Why are you always apologizing! Don't you have a spine?" Shinji squirmed, then Shizuka whispered, "Time to go." He got up then, and said, "Shouldn't we be going?" Misato glanced at the clock, did a double-take, and flew back to her room. "Ready in a second!" ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As Shinji gazed at the massive body covered in scaffolding, he couldn't help but be awed at its sheer size. It had looked much smaller when he'd fought. Then, glancing down the hallway made by the tent walls and the scaffold, he spotted his father, bandages on his hands as he examined a portion of what appeared to be the Angel's core. Shinji was at first suprised, then realized that it made perfect sense. "After all, he is the Commander. He needs to know all he can," Shinji thought. "But, what's wrong with his hands? It looks like he...burned them?" As Shinji turned to question Ritsuko and Misato, he heard his guide send to him. "Well, if you want to know, it was while he tried to save Ms. Ayanami," Shizuka said. "He did what?" Shizuka sighed and made 'head-smacking-with-palm noises'. "He wanted to rescue her. It was during the Unit Zero activation tests. Her Eva went berserk, force-ejected her plug, and she bounced around the ceiling for awhile. Then, her plug fell to the floor, superhot with exhaust. He ran out of the control room, into the cage, and opened the superheated hatch with his bare hands. Ruined a good pair of glasses too. The LCL bent the frames and the heat cracked the lenses. That's how Rei got injured, too." "You're crazy. That insensitive bastard? Helping someone? You're fucking insane!" "Don't believe me? Ask Ritsuko, then. She'll confirm it." Misato saw him staring, and assumed he had been looking at the Angel. "Doesn't it look creepy? It feels like it might get back up at any moment!" Shinji grinned nervously, and then said, "Actually, I just noticed, umm, my father, he, uh, seems to have burned his hands. I was just wondering how." Ritsuko repiled to him. "Well, it was before you joined us. During the Unit Zero activation test, to be exact." Form there, she went into a story that was extremely close to the one Shinji had just heard. As she finished with, "and that's how he burned his hands!", Shinji couldn't help but feel a new wave of apreciation for his guide's vast knowledge. A quiet "I told you so!" echoed in his thoughts for a moment, then Shinji nodded. "Thanks. I was just curious. But I guess my father isn't as heartless as he first appears." As Shinji turned his thoughts inward, he picked up one last interesting bit of info, as Misato said, "Hey, Ritsuko, why don't you come over for dinner!" ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fortunately, Misato only cooked one day out of the month. That was more than often enough for Shinji, who now believed the reasons Shizuka had voiced for avoiding having her cook at all costs. Once a month was enough to leave the kitchen stinking for days. As luck would have it, Misato wasn't cooking tonight. "Wow, this is really good!" Ritsuko exclaimed as she took a bite of the curry Shinji had prepared. "If only Misato could cook this good, we would have survived college a bit better off! At least SHE would have had a boyfriend who stuck around!" As Misato scowled at the joke, she said, "Yeah, but Shinji here's quite a handsome prize himself! Pity he's so young, I'd take him!" Shinji blushed deep crimson, and hid his eyes behind his bangs. Ritsuko glowered at her coworker. "You'd better not even think about it, Misato. Or so help me, I'll get your ass on a stick and roast it myself!" Misato laughed, and said, "Not like I'd have a chance, with all the pretty girls that must be after him at school." Then, sneaking a sly glance at her young housemate, she added, "And Rei's probably got all his attention." She giggled then, as Ritsuko smacked her head with her palm. Then, the blonde doctor dug through her purse, exclaiming, "I forgot about it again!" She fished for a bit more, then retrieved a laminated card. She handed it to Shinji, and said, "This is Rei's new ID card, but I keep forgetting to give it to her. Could you drop it off on your way in to work tomorrow?" Shinji took a long look at the picture on the card, thinking about how little he knew about Rei, and how little she talked about anything. His ruminations were interrupted by Misato's slurred, "Starin' at Rei's picher, ain't ya?" He started, and exclaimed, "No! It's just, well, even though we work together, I don't know anything about her..." "Well, she's a very private person," Ritsuko said. "She's like your father that way. She's not very good at..." She trailed off, thinking of the right word. "Living, I guess." Shinji put the put the card in his pocket, and stood up. "I'm off to bed. Just leave the dishes in the sink for me, okay?" ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The next morning was mostly routine. Shinji woke up to Shizuka's voice, got dressed while he listened as the day's schedule was listed off to him, and made breakfast. Then, he woke up Misato, as she had requested. Finally, he set off to Rei's house. Arriving at the run-down slums that she called home, Shinji was appalled. He took one look at the mail slot, and whispered to his guide, "What now?" "Just go inside. Rei has no grasp of modesty, or common household chores. She eats at headquarters or has ramen. She won't mind if you walk in, in fact, she'll probably ignore you. But, don't touch anything. Just do as I say." Suiting advice to action, Shinji moved forward, entering the small domicile. He was surprised at how dirty it was, and said so. Shizuka reminded Shinji that Rei only cleaned her body, not her living quarters. She spent little time there, anyway. Shinji responded that he would offer to help her clean up a little. Shizuka replied that she would decline. Just then, Shinji heard a door shut. As he went to look, his body froze. "Shinji, if you wish to remain totally in control of your brain, you won't look. As I said, Rei has no sense of modesty. She just left the shower." Shinji felt a blush creeping up his face, and fought it. Then facing the wall, he said, "Rei? Ritsuko sent me to deliver your new ID card. Just let me know if you're dressed, and I'll come in." Sounds of ruslting clothing sounded in the room, then Rei's soft voice called out, "I am dressed. You may come in, if you wish." Shinji let out a breath he hadn't realized he was holding, and enterd the room. Taking another look around the small, dirty place, he spotted a glasses case on a cabinet. Thinking, "Rei doesn't wear glasses," he heard Shizuka's voice supply the answer: "You father's. The ones he broke rescuing her. Don't touch them. Just give her the card, and walk to headquarters with her. Ask her questions, if you want, but not until you're on the way. And for Kami's sake, be friendly. She doesn't have friends, at least, none that I know of." With a mental sigh and, "What a pity, she seems so nice, " Shinji pulled the card from his pocket, and handed it to Rei with a smile, as he noted her clothing. "Don't you have any other outfits besides your school uniform?" Rei's gaze was confused, as they turned to walk out the door. "Why would I need other clothing?" Shinji giggled, and said, "Well, don't you ever just go out and have fun? See your friends? You'd need to wear more casual clothes for that." "I do not do those things. It is not neccessary for NERV, and I have not been ordered to do so, so I do not." Shizuka silently told Shinji, "Remember what I said earlier? She doesn't have friends. She only has her work. She isn't really a people-person. A lot like you, actually, just before you came here. YOU didn't talk to anybody either, if you remember! All you did was what you were told, nothing more, nothing less. Rei is like that, but she hasn't been around others who care about her. You have, though it may not seem like it." Shinji looked shocked. Out loud, he exclaimed, "But everybody has friends!" He paused for a moment, and brightened, "I know! I'll be your first friend, then. How does that sound?" Rei looked at him, stunned. She was quiet for some time, then she said in a whispery voice, "Very well, Pilot Ikari." Shinji laughed and said in a mock severe tone, "Now you listen here, Ayanami. If you're going to be so formal, we aren't really friends! You may call me by my first name, and I will call you by yours. Okay, Rei-chan?" A tiny hint of blush crept over Rei's pale face, as she replied, "Hai. Let us be good friends, Shinji-kun." Shinji smiled, and said, "Much better. Now, we'd better hurry or we'll be late for your activation test." ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As the two pilots exited the changing room, Shinji gently took Rei's hand. "Rei, good luck!" Rei's confused look told Shinji he had said somthing Rei doesn't grasp. He elaborated with, "Well, last time you got hurt, right? This time, let's hope everything turns out okay." "Why should it not?" Rei replied in her cool manner. "Have you no faith in your father's work?" Shinji opened his mouth to reply hotly that his father was an evil plauge on humanity, but what came out was, "Well, if it happened once, it can happen again! But you're right, there shouldn't be any problems." Then his left hand waved as Rei climbed the ladder to her entry plug. Inside, Shinji was seething. "Shizuka, how dare you! We both know what I think of that- that monster!" "Indeed we do," Shizuka replied cooly, still in control of the body they shared. "But, Rei was raised by the Commander, and he saved her life. As far as Rei is concerned, he can do no wrong." "But- but-" "No buts. Rei is totally devoted to your father. If you had said what you were about to, she would have slapped you into next week. You do NOT need that kind of thing to happen to you in full view of the bridge crew! They'd think you were asking her for sex or something, the perverts. Just stay away from the topic of your father with Rei, and you'll be fine." Shinji suddenly stumbled backward, regaining control of his limbs abruptly. He made his way up to his own Eva, and climbed into his Entry Plug. He would be running security, just in case Rei's Eva went berserk again. Shizuka had assured him nothing would go wrong, but Shinji was still nervous. Spotting someone on the platform with Rei, Shinji zoomed his monitors in on the two figures. He saw Rei, of course, then, "My father! What the hell is he doing there?" Getting no response from Shizuka, he continued to observe. Rei was talking animatedly to the commander, with a smile on her face. "I just don't get it! How can she like that bastard?!" Shinji complained to Shizuka. "Gratitude, I suppose. I wouldn't worry too much, you won't have to see him often if you work at it. Only when he has to deliver orders." As the technicians started up Unit Zero, Shinji watched his monitors and tried to relax. Shizuka was also watching, and Shinji could feel his eyes glance at various displays without his directing them. He was no longer disturbed by it, but it was a bit annoying when Shizuka glanced at the neural connection readout for the fifteenth time in two minutes. "Look," Shizuka said when he sensed shinji's frustration, "I just want this to go smoothly. We'll need Rei for the next battle, and she needs to be totally in control of her Evangelion." "When's that coming up, anyway?" "Soon. Too soon for my likeing, but there's nothing I can do about that. I'll walk you through it when the time comes." They were distracted by Rei's Evangelion passing the Absolute Borderline, and powering up. She flexed the fingers a bit, and radioed in, "No problems." Ritsuko requested her to test a few systems and controls, and make a few movements. After about half an hour, she ordered shutdown. As Shinji and Rei walked away from the changing room, Shinji turned his head and said, "Congratulations on your activation, Rei. It's nice to know I'll have a partner around from now on." Rei replied, "I do not understand. I did nothing to aid in the reactivation, yet you offer me praise. Why?" Shinji sighed, and said, "Well, despite what you may think, the Eva wouldn't move without you. No matter what else happens, YOU are the Pilot of Unit Zero. Without you, they wouldn't have even tried to reactivate it. So, the success is also partly yours." Rei hung her head, and whispered, "I see." Noting that Rei seemed depressed, Shizuka made a snap decision. "Rei, what do you say we go out for dinner? To celebrate the occasion. Not anything really fancy, but I do have a little money." Shizuka said smoothly, overriding Ikari's control for the second time that day. When Rei nodded, Shizuka grasped her hand gently, and said, "I know a great Ramen stand nearby. Don't worry, I'm pretty sure they have something you'll like, even if you're Vegitarian." Rei looked genuinely startled. "How did you know I did not like meat?" she asked in a confused and almost fearful tone. "Lucky guess?" ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ As the pair walked down the street, Shinji rounded on his mental companion. "What are you thinking, Shizuka?! You practically asked her out on a DATE!!! What am I supposed to do?" Shizuka made the mental equivalent of a smile. "Trust me, this is not a date. Rei doesn't even have an interest in dating. You're just friends. This is to get her more used to being around you, and to get her to experience some real emotions. Remember what Ritsuko said about her?" "That she's like my father?" "Yes. Now, let's say you could start over with your father. Wipe away the past. Wouldn't you want to try and be at least friendly with him?" "Well..." "That's what we're doing now. Trying to be friends with Rei. Pay for the meal, start a litle conversation, and walk her home. And try to make her feel happy. She's probably never felt happy in her whole life." "Your full of it! Everybody is happy about something!" Rei and Shinji arrived at the ramen stand, and placed their orders. As they took their seats at the counter, Shinji queried his guide, "What should we talk about?" "Ask her if she has any hobbies. Anything she likes to do in her spare time." "You mean you don't know?" Shizuka sighed. "No. I'm not Kami, for crying out loud! I just know a lot!" Shinji snickered, and too late realized it was out loud. Rei turned to look at him, her eyes asking him what he was doing. Shinji controlled himself, and said, "Gomen, I just had a random thought and found it rather ridiculous." Rei simply nodded, so he continued. "Anyway, I thought we could get to know eachother a little better. Do you play an instrument?" Quietly, "Violin. Do you also play an insturment?" "Yes, actually. I play Chello. But I haven't practiced in a while, so I'm probably no good anymore." Rei replied, "Yes, I am also out of practice." There was a pause, then, "I have a Chello/Violin duet piece. Would you like to practice it at another time?" Shinji smiled. "Sure, we can go to my place sometime." "That should not be a problem." Rei had a slightly more upbeat tone to her now, and Shinji smiled at her. Not a lover's smile, but friendly. The rest of dinner was filled with conversation about the great classical composers who's music they both enjoyed. When they finished, Shinji walked Rei back to her apartment complex, and told her that any time she wanted, she could come and visit. Rei's response was a nod, and she closed her door. Shinji sighed mentaly, and thought to SHizuka, "If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, Id never have believed there was a person with so little emotion to them. She's like a puppet with invisible strings!" "More like a doll with motorized parts and preprogrammed sayings. Becoming friends will take work, but it will pay off. She's a nice girl, she just doesn't apreciate her own existance." --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Next thing Shinji knew, the alarms were going off. He bolted for headquarters, screaming to Shizuka, "I thought you said you'd TELL me when these things were going to happen?!" "I got distracted! Sorry!" Shinji hurried down to the changing rooms, donned his suit, and climbed into the lifts to the ready room. When he arrived, Misato and Rei were there, Misato breathing a little hard like she'd just arrived. She began outlining the mission, and when Shinji heard that he'd be going out alone, he asked why. "Rei simply doesn't have the combat experience for this mission," was the reply. "She's a liability for now, and she will remian in the Cage observing." Rei nodded, though her eyes seemed a bit downcast. Shinji was feeling a bit nervous, looking at the giant rhombohedral floating in the sky. Shizuka's next words as he got ready to launch did little to calm him. "Listen Shinji, you aren't going to win this one. Your Eva doesn't yet have the firepower to kill the Angel, and your AT Field isn't strong enough to deflect its attacks. Your best bet is to raise your field the moment the door opens above you and try not to move. If you do, you die. If you don't, the beam will hit us in the chest and boil you until they retreat us. Moving, however, will cause the Angel to hit our head, and a direct hit to the Entry Plug will kill you much more easily. The best thing you can do is focus on the AT Field and keep it focused on our chest area." Shinji was quiet as the massive battle machine rose to the surface, and when he saw the door open above him, he spread his field and concentrated it on his chest. He barely had time to look at the Angel before a bright light flashed across it's surface. It coalesced, and streaked towards Shinji's still ascending and locked down Eva. The Angel's beam hit, and he began to scream. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When Shinji awoke several hours later, Shizuka was whispering to him. "Welcome back, Shinji, you did well. You woke up ten minutes ahead of schedule, and your Eva took less damage than it should have by all rights. However, Ritsuko read your concentrated AT Field into the equation, and realized that was why you did so well. Everything is going acording to plan." Shinji rolled his head to the side, and saw Rei. She began reading a schedule to him in an official sounding manner, and Shinji was shocked at the end of it at how cold she seemed. "What if I don't want to go?" he asked, more to hear what she would say than for any other reason. "I will go out in Unit One and destroy the target myself. However, this will undoubtedly result in heavy damage to the Eva and myself." "Then I suppose I have to go." Shinji sat up, feeling Shizuka pull the sheets up around him. Silently grateful, he said, "I will be ready." "Goodbye then." Rei left. Shinji was frozen for a long time. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Shinji and Rei were aboard their Evas, waiting for the signal from Misato. As they took up their positions, Shinji's eye's strayed over to an open comm window of Unit Zero. He felt his eyes pull away, and Shizuka said, "Don't worry. Just stay focused on your shot. If you miss, Rei gets cooked." As Shinji fired, he felt a part of his concious mind seperate, and vanish from his perception. He heard a quiet voice talking to him, as though from far away, informing him of his surroundings and his target status. He heard the voice tell him about the Angel's shot, and never had to look to see it as the image was fed to his brain without his concentraition. With his almost-omnicient vision, he watched the two beams warp around each other, even as he got set up for his next shot. He saw Rei jump in front of him, shield up, but that other part of his mind shoved his attention back to his aim, while informing him of Rei's condition. As the shield melted into slag, and the Eva's armor began to superheat, Shinji fired his second shot. The target fell, and Unit Zero fell at the same time, no longer supported by the beam. The shot had barely left the barrel of the positron rifle before Shinji threw it away from him, scrambling to his feet. He rushed his war machine to the fallen giant's side, kneeling down. His synch rate, driven higher by adrenaline and sheer willpower, made him feel as though he WAS the robot, rather than it's pilot. Shinji ripped the Eva's plug cover off, gently grasped the ejected plug and gently lay the plug on the ground. Struggling to leave the euphoria of the feeling of being a giant, he snapped off his nerve connection. Then, leaping from his kneeling Eva to the ground, he rushed to the hatch, and grabbed the superhot metal latch. Gasping at the pain of the metal burning through his plugsuit, he twisted the hatch open, and wrenched the door off its now loose hinges. Thrusting his head inside, he spied Rei, eyes closed and body slumped on the control chair. Tears glistened in his eyes, as he softly called her name, then again louder. She stired, then looked over to him. "What is wrong?" she asked in little more than a whisper. "Thank Kami you're alive!" Shinji cried, slumping against the wall of the plug. Rei turned her eyes to the ground as he added, "Don't ever say 'goodbye' before a mission, like you'll never see me again! And don't say you have no other purpose! It's just too sad!" Soft sobs wracked his thin frame as he cried his relief. For the first time in her life, Rei Ayanami felt something tug at her heart. The only way Shinji knew, was by the tiny smile on her lips as she said, "Yes. We promised to make music together, did we not?" He smiled, and began to chuckle as he replied, "Indeed we did, Rei-chan. Indeed we did." He extended his hand to her, and said, "Well then, how about I take you out of here?" Rei's face became brighter than Shinji had ever seen, and she whispered, "I would enjoy that, Shinji-kun." ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Author's Notes! WEEEEEEEE! My lord, that took waaaaay too long! Oh well, at least it's finished. Some of you may have noticed that Shinji was slightly more confident in his dealings with Rei in her apartment. This is due to two distinct factors. The first: Shinji didn't see her naked, didn't fall on her, and didn't grope her boob. Granted, those thing were accidents, but they unnerved him. Hell, I'D be a bit shocked to happen into a situation like that, not that I'd complain... The second reason is that Shizuka's constant presence and his friendship give Shinji a sort of calming effect. Shinji knows, on some deep level, that Shizuka will always be there for him, no matter what he does or says, and even when he may not want him. That sort of thing has always been missing in Shinji's life, and the almost fatherly Shizuka is helping Shinji to believe in himself. Fans of Shinji-sans-spine will not like the way he turns out. This fic is supposed to be the way things could have been if they hadn't gone so horribly dark near the end. Not that dark is bad, it just doesn't match up with the beginning somehow. So Shinji will be much braver than usual, because he has someone he knows he can depend on. As far as Rei playing Violin, I found that one out from Death and Rebirth. The little intro scenes for each character are the children playing instruments, and I'm pretty sure Rei played violin. BTW, Asuka also plays violin. Another thing a lot of people are going to hate are the changes to Rei. Shinji is going to work very hard at making her a more normal person. Shizuka's vast knowledge will aid him, but the real work is on his shoulders. Rei's shell cracks much less easily than Shinji's though, so don't expect too much. Next time on Know Thy Enemy: Asuka, Shinji, and the Angel of Fish Keep your blades sharp, and your mind sharper! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ And now.......................................... OMAKE!!! (Expect these whenever the story seems short. Sometimes there just isn't that much to say in a section, the way they are broken up) As the two pilots exited the changing room, Shinji gently took Rei's hand. "Rei, good luck!" Rei's confused look told Shinji he had said somthing Rei doesn't grasp. He elaborated with, "Well, last time you got hurt, right? This time, let's hope everything turns out okay." "Why should it not?" Rei replied in her cool manner. "Have you no faith in your father's work?" "Actually, no. To put it bluntly, he's an insensitive, egotistical bastard who has no trace of human warmth or compassion in the frozen stone the substitutes for a heart in his wretched, cursed body. His soul is twisted by darkness, and he only interacts with others when it furthers his own ends. Project E and the Evas are part of his grand master plan to destroy humanity, and wipe us all off the face of the earth just so he can be with my mother for a few fleeting seconds before he dies. "The bastard should be shot, diced into tiny pieces, burned into ash, and then the individual grains of dust should be sealed in seperate containers and launched into different random directions in space so he could never ever put himself back together. Then, when that's done, we destroy all evidence of his ever being here on Earth, and erase him from our minds with hypnosis so we never have to even think about him." Rei just stood in shock and Shinji climbed into his Eva, reached out, and crushed Gendo Ikari's frail human body into a bloody pulp. As Shinji sat in the Plug, laughing maniacially, the only words that could be made out were, "And you said she would slap me?! Well, HOW'S THAT?!?" ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- }=] End of transmission. }=]
