Walk Of Life

{ Chapter III - Another Day In Hell }

[Song : Corey]

KNOCK! KNOCK! KNOCK!
“What are those sounds?” Corey asked himself. His eyes were closed. What time it was, he couldn't tell. The last thing he remembered was the bottle of red wine. KNOCK! KNOCK! KNOCK! Those sounds came back. “Oh fucking shit! Stop making so much noise!!” yelled Corey, with his eyes still closed. He was trying really hard to open them. He was feeling so heavy and so...full. If only he could vomit all the ache in his body.

Ding Dong Ding! Ding Dong Ding!
“Oooohhhh great!! Now the shitty door-bell!” Corey whined as he pressed his hands against his forehead. His mind was totally broken. It was aching so much. Then, he rassembled all his forces, his tiny forces, and tried to get up. First time was a failure, second time too, third time...no luck. But the fourth time was a success. He thought he would have never been able to do it.

Ding Dong Ding! Ding Dong Ding!
“I'M COMING!!!!” yelled Corey, making his own ears ache. He walked rather slowly towards the door. “Nom d'un chien...” he whispered under his breath. His really bad breath. He had drank a lot of wine the night before. “YES??” he asked, still yelling, as he opened the door.

“C-Corey? What happened to you?” asked Jessica, her eyes wide of amazement and surprise. “Are you all right?”

“N..Nothing important,” replied the french boy as he scratched the front of his head lightly. “Uh...why are you here?” Corey asked, realizing who was the girl infront of him. He never really talked to Jessica before.

Jessica realized what happened to Corey. She guessed it by the latter's breath. But she didn't make any comment on that. “They're performing the operation on Shawn right now. Maria asked me to come here to tell you. I did it, so...I guess I'll see you there, bye!” And with a little weak smile, she went away.

The sun rays were already quite hot, so Corey guessed it was late in the morning. He closed the door and went in the bathroom. He had to take a long and cold bath. “Shawn...” he whispered several times with love and worry. He made as quickly as possible. He knew what was up ahead.

After his cold bath, and after doing all the usual after-bath stuff like putting on deodorant, perfume and dressing up, a dark red long sleeved shirt, black jeans, black socks and his black shoes, he climbed down the stairs heading towards the door. He was wishing that there was another way.

But as he reached the door knob, his eyes went in the direction of the answering machine. He remembered everything. It made his heart beat with pain and sadness, even some anger. He walked back towards it. He stared at the machine for a long moment. There was the last message of his mother for him on it.

“Mother...” he said with a very weak voice filled with emotion of sadness. “Where are you now? What happened to you?” he asked staring at the machine, his eyes starting to fill up with tears. He caressed the machine with tenderness, never will the last message of his mother be erased. Never. “Mylène...”

Meanwhile, at the head-quarters of the CAs (Charlie's Angels), Charlie had made contact with Kathryn. The latter was the only one of the three angels to come. Jessica wanted to stay at the hospital and of course, Maria couldn't leave her brother. It didn't mean Kathryn disliked Shawn, but just that she wasn't as close to him as her two friends. “Sorry, Charlie,” she apologized to her boss after having explained the situation.

“It's okay, Kat, I understand. But I do have some important information concerning our enemy. You'll update Jess and Maria later on. All right?” replied Charlie, through the speaker.

“Yea, sure!” Kathryn smiled. But though she tried to hide it, she had also a heavy rock on her heart. “So, wassup?”

“The boss has been hiding since he or she arrived in Sunrise Valley but now, that he or she is planning on coming to the surface. One of my agents spied an internet-phone conversation between the boss and one of the latter's subordinates,” explained Charlie.

“Couldn't you trace the call or something?”

“Unfortunately, they used a device to prevent us from doing so. Their voices were disorted too and they talked mostly in codes. I guess they knew they were being spied. Anyway, what's clear right now is that the boss is going to penetrate in a zone where he or she is sure that finding him or her will be nearly impossible...”

Kathryn sighed, “Doesn't sound really good. What's your plan?”

“For the time being, my agents will go on spying that subordinate and try to get some useful information about where and when the boss will come out. So, for now, all you have to do is wait and train, like I told you.”

“Geez, last time we trained was for nothing. We went to an old factory to fight against some stupid losers and there was no sign of that famous boss. Why are you trying to get that guy anywayz?” Kathryn asked back, a bit upset and curious.

“There's all you need to know in those documents I gave you. I've to go now, I'll contact you if there's something new. And...tell Maria that I'll pray for her brother. Good Bye!”

With that, Charlie hung up. Kathryn didn't even have the time to say anything. She really wanted to know why that boss was so important. She should probably talk about it with her friends and she was also going to check those documents again.

“Damn, why is it taking so long??” complained Maria as she passed her hands through her red-hair. She was in the waiting room of the hospital, along with Ben and Jessica. “It's been almost three hours now...damn!” Maria was on the nerves, just like her uncle and her friend. The two girls were walking back and forth whereas Ben Matthews was sitting in a corner with his hands on his face.

“Calm down, Maria. It's going to be okay. They're performing a heart surgery here, it's no surprise it's taking so long. Relax, everything's gonna be okay. Just think positive and...you'll see, Shawn will be okay.” Jessica tried her best to reassure herself and Maria. She didn't want to think the worst. Shawn's going to get out of this mess, she thought with all the might of her heart.

Maria approached her friend and gave her a hug, “Thanks Jess, I know I'm a bit like a pain right now...”

“No, you're not a pain. You're a sister who's worried for her brother,” immediately replied Jessica with a little smile. “Me too I'm worried 'cause...Shawn's like a brother to me...”

After hearing that, Ben looked at the two girls. He was glad that Shawn was loved so much. If ever he wakes up, he's gonna need all that love. Ben's eyes started to get teary, he thought of her, Heather. They once loved each other so much. “I promise you, Heather, I'm going to be the father I should have been a long time ago. Shawn and Maria will never be alone...never...”

“Corey didn't seem so good when I saw him earlier,” Jessica said to Maria. The girls were now sitting on the waiting room's seats. They were facing each other. “I think he...ahem...drank a lot last night.”

Maria widened her eyes, “You mean...he was drunk when you saw him?” She couldn't believe such a nice boy like Corey could be...that type of guy. The type who drinks when problems arise. Well, of course, losing his mother and his boyfriend being in danger were not problems like others...but still.

“No, I don't think he was drunk but...by the breath he had, I guessed. And he looked really awful, I mean, it was red eyes and everything. Unless he looks like that in the morning...” Jessica answered with a little smile. Maria smiled with her. They needed to cheer up.

Then, Maria thought of her mother. They were friends. And now, she's gone, forever. Maria cried a lot last night, but then, when she woke up, she decided that she got to be strong. For Shawn and for herself. That's what her mom would have told her. Be strong.

“Speaking of the devil,” whispered Jessica with a little smile as she saw Corey enter the waiting room. Maria looked back and saw the french boy heading their way. She smiled weakly. “He looks better than earlier,” added Jessica.

“Um...hi girls...” Corey sat next to Maria. “Anything new?” he asked, almost above a whisper. Maria looked at the french boy with a weak smile and replied that Shawn was still in the operation room.

“Feeling better?” Jessica asked the blond haired boy. The latter looked back at her with eyes filled with surprise. “C'mon, I know what you did last night, I'm just asking if you're feeling better. You're not being judged here...” Jessica added with a little smile. She didn't want Corey to be ashamed for this morning. Sure, drinking to forget his problems isn't something to be proud of, but he was in deep sorrow. That's understandable.

Corey remained silent for a moment, he lowered his face and sighed. “Yeah, I'm okay now. I took a cold bath before coming here. Thanks for asking,” he replied with a little smile too. Then, silence came over. It wasn't a cold silence but just that the three of them were worried.

After some minutes, Corey looked around the room, something was wrong. Weird. Something was missing, something important. Corey looked at Jessica and Maria and asked, “Hey...where's Taylor?”

[Song : Taylor]

At the same moment, in the ancient garden. Taylor walked slowly through the bushes, tears were running on his cheeks. He was wearing Shawn's clothes. The latter's favourite black t-shirt, blue jeans, dark-blue socks and dark brown shoes. Taylor sneaked in Shawn's house, went in the latter's bed-room and took the clothes. He even sprayed on himself Shawn's favourite perfume.

Taylor arrived infront of the baobab, the place where he and Shawn first kissed. The day Taylor saved the brown haired boy. Everything changed since that day, everything. Taylor sat down with his back against the baobab. Tears were still running slowly on his red hot cheeks. He was staring at the ring Shawn gave him not so long ago, S+T=4ever was graved on it, as he mumbled and whispered...

“I did it because I love you...because I care...I did it in the name of love...I did it because I love you...I did it...in the name...of...love...”
