THE BARBADOS NATIONAL FLAG.

The Barbados National Flag was designed by Mr. Grantley W.Prescod.His design was chosen from 1,029 entries in an open competition organised by the Government of Barbados. Mr. Prescod wad awarded a Gold Medal, an inscribed scroll from the Government and $500 which was donated by the Advocate Compsany Limited.
Mr. Prescod attended St. Barnabas Boys School. He taught before undertaking a one year course at the West of England College of Art for Specialist Teachers of Art 1962-1963. Mr. Prescod has taught at the Parkinson Memorial Secondary School.
Barbados is one of several former Brittish territories located in the Caribbean. It is the most easterly of the islands. It is about 166 square miles, has a population of 250,000 people. Mr. Erroll Walton Barrow was its first Prime Minister and remained as such until 1976 when his Democratic Labour Party - the party of which he was a Founder Member - was defeated at the poles by the Barbados Labour Party led by Mr. Tom Adams.
