Switches like these allow information to be shared across a network. The Internet is connected to a server and then to the switch. This will allow any computer on the network to install and connect to the Internet.

The Internet and  a Local Area Network

The Server on the left is currently on an ISDN line which is somewhat out of date. The new "T1" line will be installed on the computer to the right with the box on top of it. T1 is a must faster way to be on the Internet.

With all this in effect, Labs like you see here can be created. This lab has 25 computers that are Internet capable. Children from all classes can come here to one central location and be connected to the World.

Teachers can come here with their class and teach entire lessons using only the Internet. Some Children even have pen pals in other countries that they can talk to every week via the Internet.
