Round 2
(Two day Match)
Bankstown vs Wallsend
Kearns Oval
We went into the first week of Round 2 with only 10 players due to work commitments, the HSC injuries, and overseas holidays (who books a holiday in the Cricket season anyway?) Both teams were looking for their 1st win of the season after coming off a loss in Round 1.
Bankstown Won the toss and elected to bat. Millanta and English import Loyd got the homeside off to a good start before Millanta was run out in the 11th over. Sarah Aley then joined Loyd in the middle with the score on 30. However she was unable to play herself in and was bowled by Laurzy for 7. Olivia Magno then took to the crease, she proceeded to play some brilliant shots getting Bankstown right back into the game. However she lacked decent support and the homeside was bowled out in the 55th over for 171. Magno remaining unbeaten on 75. A terrific effort by our girls in the field with 4 run outs and some terrific fielding all round. Our bowlers also doing the job. Sticks the best with 3 - 37 off 21, 7 maidens. Laurz took 2 -47 off 16 and Dom also picked up 1.
Leah and Wally then went in to bat with the idea of batting out the arvo. We got off to a good start before Wal was caught in the 17th over with the score on 29.
Week two saw Leah and Sticks take to the middle, we knew the target was gettable, we just had to bat smart and work in partnerships. Unfortunately we couldn't string those important partnerships together, our top and middle order going quite cheaply. Young Ashleigh Campbell showed guts in the lower order before being bowled by Bron Daws for 12. Candy then joined Leah for a lower order revival. When Leah was caught on 64 that was the ball game. We finished 9 - 133, Candy 10no. We were quite happy with this result despite the batting effort on day 2. We will take a lot of positives away for future matches.
