Lime "sweetens" acidic soils by increasing the pH. This unlocks fertilizer and micronutrients, and therefore makes it much easier for the grass plant to absorb and utilize each nutrient.
Lime increases the soils microbial activity, which aids in Thatch Control, and Disease Reduction.
Lime also helps to reduce Moss growth which grows better in more acidic soil. Lime and its main component Calcium, are vital constituents of cell walls in grass, stems, roots and leaves. Calcium is needed for cell division and formation.
Lime enhances the grass plants rate of water uptake and evaporation.
