Santander has for long been a favorite summer place for the madrelenos (the
inhabitants of Madrid). Here you will experience a real Spanish summer place not over run by foreign tourists. Well, not yet any way. Santander is in the Northern part of Spain called Cantabria. I went there this summer
for a week, and it was excellent.Natteliv i Santander Well, the nightlife in Santander is second to none. Many other resorts have a good nightlife as well but they tend to get "clatty" very quickly. Just
think about places like Kos and Ibiza. In Santander it is mostly Spanish people that go out there. I don't even think I met a single foreign person at night. I went to quite a few places. Most of my Spanish friends go
there to have a good time even in the winter time, so the place has quite good recommendations. Like in the rest of Spain, the going out procedure is that you go from bar to bar, and grabs a pint or a copa each place.
You will then meet people that you will talk to in one bar, they will leave for another bar, you will meet them there again, and it goes on like that all night, until everybody meet up in last frontier, the late night
techno club. If you are there on thursday it is definitly worth paying La Embajada
a visit. Thursday is happy hour .. But remember it only lasts 1 hour so you'll have to be quick. I think it starts around 11 p.m. Actually, there are 4 bars surarounded by a small square with a stair case, so if you are there in the summer time like most people are, you will find it very fun to be sitting there. The square is filled with people.
Not far from La Embarrada is the majority of the fiesta going on. Here you'll find a huge crowd sitting on a large stair case (almost like the Spanish steps in Rome). On this square, I can definitly recommend
La Calle. It is on the edge of the square. It's really small, and totally
filled with people. That might be why 90% of the people visiting this bar are outside the front entrance drinking in the street. A place worth checking out is La Costa
which is situated not far from the harbour. It's kind of a "hot tip". The best cafe in without doubt La Austriaca. At last I'll recommend Pacha. It just in front of
La Costa, so you don't have to walk far to get to all the action. It is a club for the early morning. I think you get kicked out of there at 7 a.m.,
so if you didn't sleep the siesta the day before, you might want to remember in the afternoon .. ;-) They play mostly "bacalao", which is the Spanish word for "techno music" ... Enjoy! I definitly did. ;-) |
