The American Academy of Actuaries is the single public policy voice
of the actuarial profession representing actuaries in all practice
specialties: health, life, pension and casualty. The Academy provides
the actuarial profession's resources to government officials and those
involved in the public policy process. Through its nonpartisan work
on public issues and its mission of upholding high professional standards,
the Academy enhances the reputation of all actuaries.
Mission
Statement
The Academy's mission is to ensure that the American public recognizes and
benefits from (1) the independent expertise of the actuarial profession in
the formulation of public policy, and (2) the adherence of actuaries to
high professional standards in discharging their responsibilities.
Professional standards of practice and discipline procedures are the
responsibility of the Actuarial Standards Board and the Actuarial Board
for Counseling and Discipline, respectively, both independent entities
managed through the Academy. The Academy also establishes qualification
standards for making public statements of actuarial opinion.
