Guidelines

Guidelines for Clarifying Your Vision

by Jesse Stoner

  • Be proactive, not reactive.

  • Move toward what you want rather than away from what you do not want.

  • Focus on the end result rather than the process for getting it.

  • Imagine your vision in present-time, not the future.

  • See it actually happening now.

  • Focus on what really matters to you. Ask, "What do I want to do?" not "What should I do?"

  • Give yourself permission to explore, to dream.

  • Be creative. Be playful.

  • Do not limit yourself by what you may think is possible.

  • Remember, a vision can overcome what might seem like insurmountable obstacles.

  • Do not be constrained by present "realities."

  • Do not let your fears and concerns limit your thinking.

  • Put yourself in the picture. See where you fit in, what you're doing, and how you're feeling.

It is important to see the whole picture. What will the results be? What will you accomplish? How will you feel about yourself and others? How will they feel about themselves and you? What values will be embodied?

If your vision does not jump out after one attempt or if it is hazy, do not worry. Creating a vision is an on-going process. As you continue to revisit your vision, it will become clearer and richer.
