EMPLOYMENT HISTORY
ORACLE CORPORATION
Position: Tools and Business Intelligence Pre-Sales Consultant / Staff Consultant
Duration:
Feb 1996 - PresentOracle Corporation is the second largest software company and the largest database vendor and consulting organisation in the world. Oracle provides best of breed database, development, OLAP and case tools, data-warehousing and financial accounting software on almost every operating system and also the web. Their market is normally the corporate or network computing environment. Oracle strives to differentiate itself by its focus on innovative web and network computing technologies designed to give the client maximum functionality, with high scalability and a low cost of ownership.
Staff Consultant
Jason worked as the managing consultant on a nine-month project with the Royal Australian Navy - Acoustic Analysis Corps. The project involved the analysis and design of an intelligence system using Oracle’s Designer/2000 and Developer/2000 products. This work successfully concluded this Oracle project with the Australian Defence Force and received personal commendation from the Navy Corp’s Commanding officer for Jason’s involvement.
Pre-Sales Consultant
In this capacity, Jason was involved in many successful sales campaigns selling Oracle’s Case tools, Development tools, Reporting tools and On-Line Analytical Processing (OLAP) tools to many clients in the Queensland and Asia Pacific, delivering and providing the right tool solution for client’s business need. This involved understanding the customer’s business and often prototyping the solution in these tools to demonstrate the product’s capacity to solve their particular problem. Jason was used in national and international marketing campaigns and toured with roadshows. The most recent one was Oracle’s Data Mart Suite Roadshow that travelled to almost all the Australian capitals and New Zealand presenting to audiences of up to 250 people.
Working in this position covers a wide range of skills in the computer industry. To successfully sell software into an organisation the consultant needs firstly to understand their client’s business. Once their business is known to a large extent, it is possible to perform a business needs analysis on the prospective client and use intimate knowledge of the Oracle product suite to match the client needs to the right product set. This solution is then presented to the client and demonstrated by either a general product demonstration and/or building a custom prototype as a proof of concept.
In his Pre-Sales role, Jason was required to work closely with many hardware vendors and Oracle partner products, gaining wide experience with both. Many sales campaigns are run in close co-operation with the major hardware vendors, such as Sun, Hewlett Packard, Digital, Compaq, Tandem and Silicon Graphics. Primarily, Jason has worked on Oracle software on major operating systems of Windows NT Server and Sun Solaris but he has also gained exposure to Digital Unix and HPUX.
Jason has had the opportunity to assist many organisations with their Information Technology requirements including:
·
Mincom and their VRML Web Minescape project·

GEMMS·
BHP Coal data warehouse·
Lion Nathan Decision Support OLAP System·

Department of Health·
Department of Education·
Queensland University of Technology·
Family Services Department’s data warehouse·
Department of Transport·
Fisher & Paykel·
Concept Systems payroll application·
Queensland Police Service secure web stolen property system.
Involvement in these successful projects ranged from working with the client, to analysis and design of their project specification and requirements, to implementation of some or all of components of that strategy. Often, the strategies involved unprecedented state-of-the-art Oracle technology designed to give the client maximum functionality with high scalability and a low cost of ownership.
Jason is also the Oracle liaison with the Queensland Oracle Users Group, the strongest one in Australia, assisting the user community with conferences, presentations and delivery of technical support. In this capacity Jason has regularly presented to technical audiences of up to fifty.
