The voice web is set to explode, and leading voice web portals (1-800-555-TELL) and BeVocal (1-800-4-BVOCAL) use Nuance speech recognition.
Both also offer free VoiceXML development
platforms, Tellme Studio and BeVocal Cafe. Other free "voice site staging centers"
include Interactive Telesis and Voxeo. In mid-2001, the first public Japanese voice
site Voizi was launched by Japan
Telecom and Omron Corporation's CMA group, powered by Nuance. Welcome to the voice
web, where the power of the Internet is becoming accessible from any telephone
everywhere...

Licenses Software From Nuance for In-Car Gadgets
In November 1998, I decided to explore the challenge of an emerging field and experience the Silicon Valley start-up life. I joined Nuance Communications in Menlo Park as software support engineer #2 and somewhere around employee #120. Nuance is the leader in natural voice interface software that makes access to information, transactions, and services over the telephone convenient and secure. I am excited to be part of this awesome and dynamic company, helping customers to develop and deploy speech recognition applications and build the voice web, developing new processes and infrastructure such as our cool extranet/developer network, and looking forward to continued industry dominance after our strong IPO !
Named one of Upside's Hot 100 Private Companies and Red Herring's Top 50 Privately Held Companies in 1998 and 1999, Nuance Communications develops, markets and supports a voice interface software platform that makes the information and services of enterprises, telecommunications networks and the Internet accessible from any telephone. Every day, millions of people worldwide interact with Nuance systems at blue chip companies like BeVocal, Lycos, Merrill Lynch, Nomura Securities, Sprint PCS, and Tellme Networks. Nuance is also driving the creation of the Voice Web and delivering software for V-Commerce™ (voice-enabled e-commerce) services and applications. Nuance is headquartered in Menlo Park, Calif., with global sales offices and partners supporting solutions in over twenty-five languages around the world.
Nuance (NUAN) achieved an exciting and memorable milestone by becoming a public company, launching it's successful IPO on April 13, in the blackest hour of the Spring 2000 stock market crash, and finishing year 2000 as one of the year's top IPOs.
