At Chengelo school there was an important rule against 'physical contact with the opposite sex'. That meant the boys & girls could not hold hands and hug one another, even if they were 'going out'. The administration did not disallow dating; they just pretended nothing was happening, while being fully aware of all the passing love affairs. (They would however intervene when they spotted potential trouble.) 'Going out' was no secret and was often an opening line in conversations among people who had nothing left to talk about. These crazy relationships also generated a discreet letter-delivery system to facilitate after-hours communication. In the evenings the typical sweetheart and her stud would write one another love notes. These would then be delivered after the prep session by kids who didn't mind doing couriers duty. More than often, these letters were filled with the typical 'love-you-so-much-baby' puppy love lines. |
