Just saw the fuel cell / balance of plant on TV / cogeneration
unit. They had the TV and a video camera running off the power
from the cell. I had phoned Larry Kyle at Global a little earlier
to see if they ended up demoing the balance of plant and cell
(which they did). Apparently the system is about the size of a
refrigerator - a smaller one, but that is the first generation.
They say they expect to get the system down about to 1/3 the size
it currently is right now. I also asked if people were allowed to
touch it (the whole system, not the cell itself) as I felt this
would be important to show people that the heat would not be a
problem. A Channel said that they system should be available in
OUR AREA around 2005 for about 2-3 thousand dollars. Id be
interested in knowing when it will be available in "other"
(Europe etc.) areas. I think we have alot to celebrate,
irregardless of what is happening in the market. They also showed
them taking cells out of the tapecaster. (One of these days I am
going to weasel myself into that lab if it kills me...hint hint
Jim if your listening...just hide anything that says BMW, Delphi,
Energen, etc.)
Now that GLE has an IR department I think its time to update the
webpage for GLE. It would be nice if there were some video clips
etc. with some discussion for people to see, actually, what would
be really kewl would be the first fuel cell company in the world
to have a live streaming video of it test cell during performance
testing, maybe running the power for the camera and lights, we
could log in to the site 24 hrs a day 7 days a week to check
"our baby"
