Peanut Butter and Honey Nibbles Skill level: beginner Nutrient content per serving (about 7 wafers using 1 tbsp of peanut butter): Protein: 7g Total Fat: 13g Sodium: 135mg Fiber: 5g Peanut Butter and Honey Nibbles are a delicious yet quick and easy treat. To increase the nutrient content eat Peanut Butter and Honey Nibbles with a glass of milk. Ingredientspeanut butter (I prefer Kroger brand crunchy natural peanut butter) triscuit brand baked whole wheat wafers honey (I prefer the honey bear squeezable container) A trick to reduce the fat grams per serving of the peanut butter is to remove some of the oil. The Kroger brand of crunchy natural peanut butter is great for this trick. Natural peanut butter tends to separate with the peanut oil floating on top of the peanut solids which settle out. I carefully open the jar then pour the peanut oil into the trash. The great thing about crunchy peanut butter is that it will spread just as nicely after pouring off the excess oil. It is more difficult to use this trick with smooth peanut butter because the smooth peanut butter solids compact more tightly as they settle out so that you usually end up pouring off too much oil and then the peanut butter doesn’t spread so easily. Tools NeededThe way I prepare Peanut Butter and Honey Nibbles requires only a knife with which to spread the peanut butter. This is because I use honey in a squeezable plastic bear. If you use another honey holding container, you will also need a small spoon such as a tea spoon to drizzle honey. When I don’t have my honey bear, I prefer to use a long handled ice tea spoon so that the handle won’t get sticky. I prefer to prepare and eat my Peanut Butter and Honey Nibbles in the kitchen over the sink. This reduces cleanup required. Sometimes, the honey can spread a bit too quickly and leak off of the wafer. We will discuss the appropriate preparation technique to reduce the possibility of a honey leak. DirectionsPlease be neat and wash your hands with soap and water. You must reach into the triscuit box to fetch out the wafers so be considerate of others and wash your hands first. Reaching into the triscuit box, fetch out a wafer (alternate method is to put down a paper towel and shake a few wafers out on the towel). Using the knife, remove a dab of peanut butter and then spread the peanut butter on the triscuit wafer. As you spread the peanut butter, try to build a cofferdam of peanut butter around the edges. You want to create a slight bowl shape with the peanut butter. Since most triscuit wafers have a slightly concave shape, the bowl shape is not difficult. You must make sure that the interstices between the wafer strands are filled with peanut butter otherwise you may have leaks when you add the honey topping.
The wafer rests on the first two fingers of the holding
hand and the thumb is used to clamp the wafter to the fingers by pressing the
thumbnail lightly on the edge of the wafer. This grip allows you to spread the peanut butter to the very edges of the wafter The next step is to put the honey on top of the peanut butter. As the image below shows, using a honey bear makes the task of honey application quite quick and easy.
This particular image was taken balancing the wafer on the side of the knife as the photographer was also the honey bear squeezer. This is an interesting demonstration of the stability of the triscuit wafer though the peanut butter on the side of the knife may have provided sufficient stickiness to enhance the natural wafer stability. The next step, which is not shown, is to eat the wafer. The proper method of eating a Peanut Butter and Honey Nibbler is to open your mouth wide and insert the entire wafer into your mouth. The uninformed may admonish you for cramming your mouth full. Ignore them, cognoscente of Nibblers agree that the only proper way to eat a Peanut Butter and Honey Nibbler is in a single bite. |
