Responsibilities as Project Lead included dealing with software development contracts and software media packaging contracts. Duties included planning and execution of transition of responsibility for one of the PC based packages to another Nortel facility in Canada.

Software designer supporting the Field Support organization for difficult customer issues.  Responsibilities involved being available 24/7 via beeper to provide telephone support assisting customers and field support in trouble shooting activities.

Team Leader responsible for contract administration and liaison activities with an external software development company for two small PC Windows based software packages.  Duties included managing the development process, working with software replication and order management to productize software, and reviewing customer documentation.

Team Leader responsible for overall product look and feel design of a new PC Windows based utility embedding a complex Change Application Procedure in a software product making it easier to execute the procedure.  Roughed out user interface look and feel and user workflow. Managed the outsourcing (including contract negotiation) for graphics development, software development, and CD-ROM packaging development.  Secured testing facilities and materials, performed testing, provided feedback to design for product improvements.

Involved as subject matter expert in re-writing portions of the customer documentation to improve content and usability.

Worked with Coop students helping them to gain workplace experience to supplement their classroom learning.

11/96 - 11/98   Program Manager, Nortel Networks

Responsible for program management and new product introduction of various mechanical packaging solutions for telephony customers. Responsible for program management and new product introduction of new line cards.

Duties included project schedule development, project schedule tracking and reporting to higher management, team building, logistics management for lab equipment, and facilitating inter-departmental relationships. Tools used were MS Office suite (MS Outlook, Project, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word).

Responsible for ensuring project records required for ISO9000 certification audits per the lab quality system were available. Responsible for reviewing project records with auditors during ISO9000 audits.

Designed and developed the new product introduction departmental Web site. Work included basic design of the site along with designing and testing Perl CGI scripts used within the site.

Prepared the planning documents (budget, schedule) for AN Express product as a part of project launch.

Received Award Of Merit for Customer Service as a part of an indoor enclosure project.

07/92 - 10/96   Member of Scientific Staff, Nortel Networks

Wrote software extending the OPS/INE TL1 interface for AccessNode SONET based DLC using C in a UNIX environment with X.25 protocols and TCP/IP.

Performed weekly sanity check of OPC software and issuing sanity report during AN10 release of AccessNode. Wrote load propagation scripts to automate propagation of sanitized loads to the CO/VO lab across the internal network.

Compiled and edited the first three versions of an internal lab operations manual documenting equipment setup and lab procedures.

Developed process and procedure documents as a member of the ISO9001 Certification team for the lab.

Participated in the hire process for applicants including interviewing and new hire orientation.

05/90 - 06/92   Consultant, CAP Gemini America

CAP Gemini America is the US subsidiary of CAP Gemini Sogeti. CAP Gemini Sogeti is a systems development consulting firm with offices and business throughout the world.

Team lead for a team of contractors developing software to interface between Bell Canada's NEC OS and Nortel Network's channel bank offering, DE4E-SMART. Communications between NEC OS and PC intermediary used X.25 protocol suite.

Designed overall architecture using a message passing pattern to impose multi-tasking on the MSDOS single tasking operating system.  The software was written in C and was targeted for an IBM PC compatible running MSDOS.  The network protocols implemented for channel bank OAM&P were proprietary.

10/89 - 04/90   Consultant, CAP Gemini America

Supported some sixty users of IBM PC compatibles at Monsanto. Duties included answering questions, providing user assistance with software, and installing hardware/software. Most of the users were secretaries and managers with little computer background.   My main focus was to help internal clients transition from a VAX based office management process to a PC based process.

01/89 - 09/89   Temporary Worker

Temporary work through various temp companies for secretarial work.

Duties primarily involved typing, filing, and manager support. Learned a great deal about office administration during this period.

09/86 - 12/88   Programmer/Customer Support; Brill Corporation

The Brill Corporation provides feed formulation and inventory software to feed mills throughout the world. It is a small, closely held corporation of approximately ten people.

Maintained and extended a feed mill software package which calculated feed formulas and maintained a formula database along with ingredient nutritional analysis and pricing information.

Software was targeted for IBM PC and compatibles and was written in BASIC using Btrieve as the database engine for MSDOS based Local Area Networks (LAN). Designed and wrote feed mixing computer interfaces to handle automatic download of formulas to mixing machinery.

Provided customer support and training on the feed mill package requiring international travel.

Managed the acquisition, installation, and maintenance of a Novell LAN for the company.

03/85 - 08/86   Self Employed

Developed software for the University of Georgia College of Agriculture for solving systems of linear equations for the Poultry Science Department and the Agricultural Economics Department targeted for the IBM PC and compatibles using FORTRAN and assembler.

Added in the ability to perform simulations by generating data using random numbers smeared across a Gaussian distribution derived from statistical analysis of real data and feeding the generated data into the linear equation solution engine.

06/84 - 02/85   Engineer, Megaplex Networks

Megaplex Networks provided the engineering expertise to maintain and upgrade the hardware and software of a computerized answering service.

Documented the software design and components of a real time call distribution system.  Performed software maintenance using FORTRAN and assembler on a Perkin Elmer minicomputer.

02/83 - 05/84   Engineer, JHK and Associates

JHK and Associates provides vehicular traffic control consulting including traffic control system general contracting, traffic signal positioning and timing, and traffic control software. It is a consulting engineer partnership with offices in several large US cities.

Maintained and enhanced real time traffic control software systems.  Software written in FORTRAN and assembler. Ported traffic control software from MODCOMP minicomputer to Perkin Elmer and Gould minicomputers. Port involved two stages: redesigned the operating system interfaces replacing most of the assembler source with FORTRAN and rewrote the MODCOMP assembler using the target minicomputer assembler.
