Finland Post issued on Jan. 12 a definitive stamp with face value FIM7.20 featuring the Fortress of Suomenlinna. The 7.20FIM is the postage of a 100g letter within the EU.

The Fortress of Suomenlinna, built on a group of six islands united by bridges and located at the entrance of Helsinki's harbour, has been inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List as a unique monument of military architecture. Besides being a istorical site and a tourist attraction, Suomenlinna is also a popular recreation area, well-loved by Helsinki citizens. With its 900  permanent inhabitants, Suomenlinna is also a lively part of the city. The stamp shows a view from one of the islands, Kustaanmiekka, with Kuninkaanportti, the symbol of Suomenlinna, in the foreground and the fortress walls and banks with their cannons in the background.
