2000.03.06 New Zealand Gold Round Kiwi Definitive

March 6, New Zealand Post re-issued the Round Kiwi definitive stamp in glorious gold after it had been appearanced in olive green (1988), red (1991), blue (1993) and purple (1997).
The stamp features the kiwi, New Zealand's national symbol and a bird found nowhere else in the world. This rare animal with a distinctive curved beak and plump body, cannot fly and, being nocturnal, is rarely seen in daylight. Its population is carefully monitored and protected in some parts of New Zealand. This issue has change in denomination from $1.00 to $1.10 reflects the new international postage rate for sending postcards or aerogrammes from New Zealand to anywhere in the world, or medium sized letters via International Air to Australia and the South Pacific.
