| On Feb. 6, in celebrating the golden jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II,
Royal Mail revealed a Prestige Book along with the commemorative set of
5 Jubilee stamps. The Prestige Book, entitled A Gracious Accession , containing
4 panes of stamps including Machins and re-editing Wilding design definitives.
The panes are as follows:
Pane 1: contains 2nd class & 'E' rate Machin definitives, with a label showing the Edmund Dulac head of King George VI as used on the definitive stamps of his reign; Pane 2: 2nd class, 1st class, 'E' rate, and 45p Jubilee stamps in a block of 4; Pane 3: 1st class, 'E' rate, 45p and 65p Jubilee stamps in a block of 4; Pane 4: 4 x 1st class and 4 x 2nd class definitives in the 1952 'Wilding' design and colours of the 1p and 2p respectively. The illustration to the left of the stamps shows a 1p green Wilding definitive with a day of issue postmark London SW1 5 DEC 1952. Alongside this is an extra 2nd class red usable stamp. The book is printed by Enschede of Holland in gravure, which means that all the stamps in it are new varieties. The 2nd class & 'E' rate definitives have not previously been printed by Enschede. In the booklet, pane 1 is printed on standard coated paper, and pane 4 is printed on "uncoated watermarked paper similar to that used for the original Wilding definitives (the E2R with Tudor Crown watermark). |
