In accordance with the policy to alternate definitive postage stamps on a regular basis, a new 60-won stamps featuring the Chinese grosbeak, or Eophona migratoria revealed on March 15, 2002 in replacement of the 60-won 'Squirrel' definitives, which have been in use since December 19, 1994.

The Eophona migratoria, known for its beautiful singing, is a summer migratory bird falling under the family of Fringillidae. The birds spend their summers in the central northern region of Korea and winter in Jeju Island in small flocks. The bird is approximately 18.5cm long and the females are slighter lighter in color than their male counterparts. The color of the feathers in female birds slighterly differ from the males : while the head and lower back of the male birds are black, the female birds have a grayish chest and light grayish stomach. Eophona migratoria which usually take up residence in urban surroundings, broad-leaved trees and needle-leaved forests, live on insects in summertime, and seeds and cereals in winter.
