DRESS FOR SUCCESS
Some General Guidelines
- Dress conservatively - avoid faddish, trendy or flashy clothes and accessories.
- Clothes should be clean, pressed and in good condition.
- Women should avoid pants and sweaters.
Suits
- Solid, dark colors are preferable.
- Natural fabrics, such as cotton, wool, linens, are best.
- Dress appropriately for the season.
- Be sure your clothes fit properly and are of good quality.
Blouses and Shirts
- White or cream are preferred colors.
- Solid colors are best.
- Contrast with suit color.
- Keep necklines conservative.
Ties and Scarves
- Coordinate with blouse/shirt and suit.
- Silk or polyester are preferred fabrics.
- Make them of appropriate size and good quality
Shoes
- Shoes should be polished and in good condition.
- Plain pumps are best for women.
- Avoid open-toed shoes.
- Coordinate with suit, belt and handbag.
- Avoid bright colors.
Hair
- Shorter is more professional
- Hair should be neatly styled and combed; no exotic styles.
- Hair should be clean and out of the eyes.
- Women must shave legs and underarms.
Jewelry
- Men should wear only a watch, wedding ring and/or class ring.
- Women should wear no more than one ring per hand, a watch and one necklace.
- Jewelry should not be flashy or trendy.
- It's preferable not to mix silver and gold.
- Earrings should be posts, not dangling.
Make-Up
- Make-up is unacceptable for men.
- Light make-up for women; go easy on the blush and eye make-up.
- Keep perfume scents light.
Nails
- Nails should be neatly trimmed and CLEAN.
- Men should have very, very short nails.
- Women should wear light or clear nail polish and nails should not be extremely long.
Pantyhose/Socks
- Flesh colored pantyhose are best; keep an extra pair handy.
- Socks should match the suit and shoes and should not be darker than shoes.
- Socks and hose must be CLEAN and stay up.
Purse
- The purse should match the shoes and belt.
- Don't carry a purse if you carry a briefcase.
