How to setup PalTalk to play music through your soundcard

Playing music in a PalTalk room through your microphone and speakers introduces a substantial layer of distortion, not to mention a further squeezing of an already limited dynamic range and frequency response. The listeners in the room are hearing the music as interpreted by your speakers and microphone. Depending on the quality of your microphone and speakers the quality of the sound can vary from bad to bearable. But the sound quality can never be as good as playing directly from your soundcard, no matter how high the quality of your microphone and speakers.

To present the best quality sound for your listeners you must play music directly through your soundcard:

Setup Sound Controls

From the main PalTalk window open File / Setup Sound Controls / Recording. A Windows Recording Control window should pop up. Make sure Wave and/or MP3 is selected as illustrated below:

Setup Global Hot Key

Now, setup your Global Hot Key. From the main PalTalk window open File / Setup and click on the Prefs tab. Make F9 your Global Hot Key either by typing it in or selecting it from the dropdown list. Make sure there is a check mark in the Global Hotkey Enabled box. Click OK.

Play Music!

Now play an .mp3 or .wav file and hold down your Global Hot Key during the duration of the song. A handy way to hold down the Global Hot Key is to place a socket on it as illustrated below:
