The 5 pound note features Catherine McAuley, born in 1778 in Dublin, she is the founder of the Sisters of Mercy in 1827. She was greatly influenced by her father James McAuley, who helped the poor of Dublin.
The Sisters of Mercy, a Roman Catholic order, operates hospitals, orphanages and schools throughout the world. On the front of the note is shown Mater Misericordiae Hospital on the back of the note is shown a classroom of students.
