1. INSTALLATION
******************
1. Download the Lingo files - lingo.zip
2. Unzip the archive to a temp directory
3. Transfer the files to your web site
*hint - make sure they're all in the same directory
4. Paste the applet code into your web page
5. Modify the parameters in the above code as follows:
WIDTH=700 HEIGHT=600
This is just the width and height of the applet as it appears on your page.
CODEBASE ="images"
Change "images" to the name of the sub-directory on your web site where you put all the
Lingo files. If you put all your files in the same directory, like on a Geocities site,
then just leave out the CODEBASE="stuff" altogether.
VALUE="http://brightflow.com/java/images/blah.txt"
Change the value of this tag to point to the location of your message document. The
message document holds the messages for the applet - see Step 6
A Geocities person might write
VALUE="http://geocities.com/Heartland/Prairie/2500/mymessages.txt"
"MessageBoxWidth" VALUE="400"
This the width of the box on which your messages are written. Make sure you make it wide
enough so that all your message can be seen.
"MessageBoxColor" VALUE="240:111:231"
"MessageBoxTextColor" VALUE="0:155:37"
"AppletBackGroundColor" VALUE="55:8:200"
red:green:blue
These tags specify the colors for the objects that make up Lingo. By mixing red, green and
blue you can get any color. The numbers representing red, green or blue must be between
0 and 255. Think of 255 as being fully switched on, and zero as fully switched off.
So the tag
makes the message box black.
makes the message box white.
"English" VALUE ="TRUE">
"German" VALUE ="TRUE">
"French" VALUE ="TRUE">
"Italian" VALUE ="FALSE">
"Japanese" VALUE ="TRUE">
If a button's value is set to FALSE, like the Italian button is above, then it won't be loaded or
displayed. Set to TRUE the buttons which you want visitors to your page to see and use.
6. Customize your Lingo message document
Here is the content of my blah.txt document. Remember that this was referred to in step 5
in the MessageSource tag.
Notice the @G @E @F @I @J used to separate the lines.
This shows Lingo which lines belong to which language.
Everything after @G belongs to German.
Everything after @E belongs to English.
Everything after @F belongs to French.
Everything after @I belongs to Italian.
Everything after @J belongs to Japanese.
Replace the lines after each of these symbols with your own messages. Blah.txt is included
in the lingo.zip archive, so if you like just modify that document directly using a *simple* text
editor (not MS Word).
