I had to replace the factory whip antenna with a little rubber one due to the fact
Sony's top of the line XRC-900 cassette/CD changer/minidisk radio I put in was just too
darn sensitive. It picks up a ton of stations, but also a lot of noise when you're
in the middle of San Francisco or San Jose due to the receiver being so sensitive.
That little 14 inch "monkey rubber" antenna only has about 4 inches of actual
antenna and the rest is rubber. Reducing the antenna to one tenth the factory size
helped it a lot. Who ever heard of picking up too many radio stations? I want to put an amplifed Fuba roof antenna on it for the cross country trips. With that antenna and the Sony receiver, you can pick up FM stations several counties away. That receiver is quite amazing, but I don't recommend it if you live primarily in a large city. Buy an Alpine or Kenwood. |
