John W. Coughlan
The Kind of Work I Do
While I am qualified and experienced in all fields of accounting, my practice tends to be limited to the following kinds of activities:
- Participation as a witness in public utility regulation, bankruptcy cases, tax matters, etc. I have helped in the preparation of cases and been deposed and/or testified in approximately 40 cases.
- Research in accounting and financial matters.
- Presentation of courses and educational programs for the AICPAs, many state societies of CPAs, CPA firms, corporations, etc. For more information about my educational activites click here.
- Guidance in compliance matters relating to Sarbanes-Oxley. No, I don't have lots of experience on this - nobody does since it is quite recent - but I am familiar with most of the issues such as Section 404 compliance.
While I have extensive tax and audit experience in the past, my preference these days is to work with my fellow CPAs rather than to compete with them. If you need help with a tax or audit issue, feel free to talk to me; I can probably refer you to a CPA firm in your area that has just the tax or audit experience that you need.
Where would you like to go next?
