Western Guerillas In The China Mist

Thoughtful Gorilla oops Guerilla

Links To Other Sites a.k.a. we get a big commission from each of these losers

Just kidding about the "losers" part. Actually not all of these sites are losers. And none of them give us a commission. Damn!

The Ugly American

  • A well written site by an westerner living in Taiwan. Lots of funny, thought-provoking stuff plus some useful information if you are a starving student living in Asia somewhere.

Job Asia

  • Great site for job searching in Asia particularly China and Hong Kong. They also have a "Forum" bulletin board page where you can write libelous anonymous comments about your former employers if you are out of work. Unfortunately there is lots of java on this site and they use cookies. Guerillas hate java and cookies unless they are banana flavor.

Beijing Scene

  • This Beijing-based English magazine was supposedly started by a young westerner on limited funds. It is a good attempt at putting together some legitimate journalism where none existed before. Tears come to our guerilla eyes when we imagine the hassles the editor of Beijing Scene must put up with from the Chinese bureaucrats.

US Embassy in China

  • A true waste of hard disk space on some server somewhere. This website is slow and lacking of any useful content. The US Embassy in Beijing is still on our shit list for their worthless performance during the "events" of 1989 (we are avoiding using the "massa....." word since this is probably how the Chinese bureaucrats search the Internet for pages to block access to). They didn't even answer their phones for days on end much less even pretend to assist any of their citizens. Many US citizens had to turn to the well organized Japanese embassy staff for assistance instead. Talk about loss of face! Our impression is that the US Embassy in Beijing is filled with Sinophile wimps who think the US should bow down to China on a daily basis. Then again, after reading Mike Chinoy's recent book, it seems like something worthwhile really was going on within the embassy walls. Check out their website and decide for yourself.

The Gorilla Gallery - Photos, Paintings, and Illustrations

  • Chock full of pictures of yours truly in our natural habitat. Though they seem to be missing a shot of us at that stupid Ice Light Festival in Harbin.

(a little) China Insight information network

  • Well written and organized site for students of Chinese and China business i.e. the younger, just-getting-started guerilla. Guerillas are much cuter at that age, don't you think?

US-China Business Council

  • These guys are conservative even by our standards. Members typically are fat-cat, cigar chomping US business executives that spend 5 days a year in China so now they consider themselves experts. Normally, if you stripped away their expensive suits, cigars, and fat budgets, they would not amount to much. If you set them up as owners of a vegetable stand in Beijing, they would certainly be bankrupt in a matter of weeks. That's not to say that every single one of these fat-cats is that stupid. Some of these guys and gals actually worked their way up the ranks and know a thing or two. We especially consider them smart when they hire one of our staff guerillas for a high paying management position in China. This site is also home of the China Business Review (CBR), a decent magazine that seemed to only hire women for years and years. Can't figure out why. At GCM, we don't discriminate against males or females as long as they are a guerilla.

If you would like your website added to the above list, feel free to email us anytime. We will swing by your site and add it on to our link list if the site is appropriate.
