China Business Jungle a.k.a. westerners as lambs to the

"Westerners as lambs to the slaughter"
That's right. Lambs. Otherwise why would westerners
(including yours truly, the editors of GCM) line up like
sheep for the last fifteen years to lose money in China?
What is the Point?
Good question. In general, our goal is to write
truthfully about doing business in China. This means that we
will air all the dirty laundry and break all normal protocol
in dealing with China. No punches are pulled here. For the
last 20 years, the allure of the China market has kept most
western mouths sealed shut. Western business people
especially live in fear of being locked out of the market.
Even academics feel heavy pressure to avoid being too
"unfriendly" toward China. So they all avoid ever saying
anything negative about China in public. On this website, we
try to throw some much needed light on some of the more
rotten aspects of investment in China especially as it
relates to westerners trying to do make an honest buck.
Some content on this website may make you angry. Some
hopefully will make you laugh. Some might make you think.
You may or may not agree with the content. Fine. That is
your choice. Go ahead and post your counterpoints on our
comment board. Let some steam off. And let's exchange
views.
There are some seemingly negative comments on China and
mainland Chinese people on this website. Don't take it too
seriously. Call it constructive criticism. Western countries
have been lampooned in the China press for years (and in the
western press as well), so we think it is high time China
get a good look in the mirror.
Why The Gorilla?
As therapy to cure that sick feeling in the bottom of our
gut, we've created GCM as a forum for our rambling recourses
about doing business in China. It may not make you feel
better but it sure helps us. Note the wise (or maybe "burned
out") looking gorilla we use as our mascot. We call him the
Thoughtful Gorilla. He represents how we now picture
ourselves after almost 20 years in China. We may be wiser
(as illustrated by the thoughtful thoughts appearing above
the gorilla's head) but we are still just a simple
gorilla.
Reference the thoughtful thoughts: mainly these are
inside jokes about doing business in China. A few of them
may be a little dated, but what the hell, we still think
they're funny. If you are one of the unlucky westerners that
has been in one of these situations, you will hopefully
appreciate them.

information on them. This one sure didn't.
